Job summary

Wärtsilä is seeking a Field Service / Commissioning Engineer for Ship Electrification Solutions in Hamburg. The role focuses on commissioning, testing and hands-on maintenance of electrical power generation and shore connection systems on ships.

Frequent worldwide travel up to 80% is expected. The candidate should have a degree in Electrical Engineering or related field, experience with medium-voltage and converter technology, and strong English skills.

Qualifications

• Masters or Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Ships Operational Technology with strong electrical focus.
• Experience in power generation plants, control/ converter technology, medium-voltage systems.
• English language proficiency (written and spoken).
• Willingness to travel globally up to 80%.

Responsibilities

• Commissioning, repair and warranty work in electrical power generation and distribution.
• System testing and analysis on-site of equipment and systems.
• Testing and acceptance of installation and necessary adjustments.
• Supervision of sea trials and training of ship crews.
• Presentation and handover of equipment systems to ship owner, shipyard and classification societies.

The position is permanent and the preferred location is in Hamburg, Germany.

What you will be doing

As Field Service / Commissioning Engineer - SES your work will focus on these responsibilities:

• Commissioning-, repair- and warranty works in the areas of electrical power generation, power distribution & electrical shore connection systems
• System testing and analysis on equipment and systems on site
• Testing and acceptance of installation as well as the necessary adjustments
• Supervision of sea trials, training of ship's crews
• Presentation and hand over of equipment's systems to the ship owner, shipyard and the classification societies
• Preparation of service/installation reports as well as feedback on technical content/changes to involved departments
• Support and guidance of remote commissioning for other departments of the group

To be successful in this role we expect you to have:

• A Masters or Bachelor's degree in a relevant area (Electrical Engineering or Ships Operational Technology with strong focus on electrical part), or equivalent
• Professional experience, especially in the fields of power generations plants, control and converter technology, medium-voltage systems
• Knowledge in the field of customer service and ship operation appreciated
• SPS skills are desirable
• Structured and practical way of working with hands-on attitude
• English language (written and spoken)
• Willingness and wish to travel frequently around the world 80%
