Overview

AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. We support all AWS data centers and the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. You’ll join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles. You’ll collaborate with people across AWS to deliver the highest standards for safety and security while providing seemingly infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost for our customers. We are looking for a Data Center Engineering Operations Technician to join our expanding Infrastructure Operations team.

Responsibilities

• Data Center Engineering Operations Technician is a hands-on electrical and mechanical equipment troubleshooting and operation responder. Apply electrical and mechanical skills to solve problems to maintain one of the world’s largest information system infrastructures.
• SAFETY: Follow and maintain the highest safety standards, encourage a world-class safety culture, own safety initiatives and projects, and remediate safety risks in conjunction with other teams.
• ENGINEERING & FACILITY OPERATIONS AND MAINTENANCE: Operational experience with electrical and mechanical equipment including UPSs, switchgear, circuit breakers, ATS, diesel generators, chillers, HVAC, exhaust fans, VFDs, and transformers.
• Troubleshoot events within internal SLAs; take daily operational readings (temperatures, voltages, currents) through routine rounds/log-taking.
• Supervise contractors or Engineering Operations Technicians to ensure proper operation and maintenance of all facility equipment.
• Drive continuous improvement through standardization of procedures and policies while delivering performance against agreed metrics.
• Provide training and guidance to Engineering Operations Technicians and assist in recruiting efforts.
• Lead root cause analysis for operational issues and conduct meetings with Subject Matter Experts to finalize mitigation strategies.

Physical requirements

• Manual handling and lifting of equipment may be required (weight limits in accordance with regulations).
• Ability to work shifts (morning, late, and night) and participate in on-call rotation for off-duty emergency calls.
• Work at heights and from ladders; in a noisy environment with ear protection; perform physical tasks during the shift.

Qualifications

Required:

• Apprentice / trades certified or diploma in an Electrical field
• Demonstrate key electrical competencies (practice & theory); knowledge of mechanical systems (mechanical, HVAC, controls); good English

Preferred:

• 3+ years of experience in operations and on-call support for data center facilities or equivalent environments
• Undergraduate degree in a technical field (EE, MechE, IndustrialE); project management experience
• Willing to travel between data center sites and internationally if required
• Solid IT skills; experience with MS Office
