German Aerospace Center (DLR) in Neustrelitz seeks an experienced professional for research in multisensor navigation. You will investigate GNSS vulnerabilities, develop multi-sensor fusion methods and prototype embedded systems for high-autonomy waterborne platforms.

The role may include remote work and flexible hours within core periods. Qualifications include a Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics or Robotics, with strong Python and SLAM expertise, plus German and English

Qualifikationen

  • Expertise in satellite-based positioning and/or SLAM.
  • Proficiency in Python; ROS knowledge desirable.
  • Experience in HW prototyping and the integration of embedded systems.
  • Very good German and English skills.
  • Willingness to travel for business trips.

Aufgaben

  • Research and develop multisensor navigation methods using GNSS, inertial and visual sensors.
  • Investigate robust methods to protect GNSS-based navigation against radio attacks, and develop methods to localize attackers.
  • Analyse modular multisensor SLAM solutions for automated and autonomous waterborne platforms.
  • Implement and test the developed solutions in the existing software framework for real-time processing.
  • Build and integrate hardware prototypes and embedded platforms, e.g. Raspberry Pi.
  • Plan, conduct and evaluate laboratory and field experiments, and document and present the results.

The DLR Institute of Communications and Navigation is dedicated to mission-oriented research in selected areas of communications and navigation. Its work ranges from the theoretical foundations to the demonstration of new procedures and systems in a real environment and is embedded in DLR's Space, Aeronautics, Transport, Security and Digitalization programs.


What To Tasks

The Nautical Systems department of the DLR Institute of Communications and Navigation develops and tests new procedures and technologies for shore-based and on-board support in ship navigation, among other things. The Multi Sensor Systems research group develops methods for high precision and robust navigation and perception, to enable high autonomy levels in waterborne platforms and other intelligent transportation systems. You will investigate countermeasures against GNSS vulnerabilities and develop multi-sensor fusion solutions integrating multilayer PNT, inertial and visual information. Your work will range from methodological development to SW and HW prototyping and validation in laboratory and field experiments.

Your tasks


  • Research and develop multisensor navigation methods using GNSS, (quantum) inertial and visual sensors.

  • Investigate robust methods to protect GNSS-based navigation against radio attacks, and develop methods

  • to localize attackers.

  • Analyse modular multisensor SLAM solutions for automated and autonomous waterborne platforms.

  • Implement and test the developed solutions in the existing software framework for real-time processing.

  • Build and integrate hardware prototypes and embedded platforms, e.g. Raspberry Pi.

Your profile


  • Completed scientific university degree (Master’s/university diploma) in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Robotics or related engineering disciplines.

  • Expertise in satellite-based positioning and/or SLAM.

  • Proficiency in Python; knowledge of ROS is desirable.

  • Experience in HW prototyping and the integration of embedded systems.

  • Very good German and English skills

  • You have the ability and willingness to carry out business trips.


Candidates must be willing to undergo a security clearance check in accordance with the Federal Security Clearance Act. Remuneration is up to the German TVöD 13 depending on qualifikations and assigned tasks.
