Job Description

Job Specification: Encoder Business Development Manager

Department: Sales & Business Development

Reporting To: Sales Director Europe

Role Purpose

The Encoder Business Development Manager will be responsible for driving sales growth and expanding market presence for encoder products (rotary, linear, optical, magnetic, etc.) across target industries such as automation, robotics, packaging, machine tools, and motion control. This role requires a blend of technical knowledge and commercial acumen to identify opportunities, build client relationships, and close deals with OEMs, system integrators, and distribution partners.

Key Responsibilities
  • Business Development & Sales

    • Identify and pursue new business opportunities for encoder products in existing and emerging markets.

    • Build and manage a pipeline of OEMs, distributors, and integrators.

    • Negotiate contracts and close commercial agreements to achieve revenue targets.

  • Market & Strategy

    • Conduct market research to identify customer needs, market trends, and competitive landscape.

    • Develop and execute sales strategies to penetrate new markets and increase market share.

    • Provide input to product development teams based on market feedback.

  • Relationship Management

    • Build strong, long-term relationships with key accounts and stakeholders.

    • Deliver product presentations, demos, and technical discussions with clients.

    • Support distribution channels with training, marketing materials, and joint visits.

  • Technical Knowledge

    • Maintain strong understanding of encoder technologies and applications (rotary, linear, incremental, absolute, etc.).

    • Work closely with application engineers to provide solutions tailored to customer needs.

  • Performance & Reporting

    • Achieve quarterly and annual sales targets.

    • Track, analyze, and report on sales performance and pipeline activity.

    • Represent the company at industry events, trade shows, and conferences.

Key Requirements
  • Education & Background

    • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Mechatronics, or related field) or equivalent technical/business qualification.

    • Proven experience (5+ years) in business development or sales within industrial automation, motion control, or encoder markets.

  • Skills & Competencies

    • Strong commercial acumen and ability to negotiate and close deals.

    • Technical understanding of encoder technology and related motion control systems.

    • Excellent communication and presentation skills, both technical and commercial.

    • Strong relationship-building and networking abilities.

    • Self-motivated, target-driven, and able to work independently as well as in a team.

    • Proficiency in CRM systems, MS Office, and sales pipeline management tools.

  • Other Requirements

    • Willingness to travel regionally/internationally as required.

    • Fluency in German and English (additional languages an advantage).
