Summary:

Recognizing the increasingly critical role that AI, technology, e-resources, and digital collections play in the future of academic scholarship, the Digital Literacy Librarian will design, implement, and lead a comprehensive information, digital, and media literacy curriculum. Working collaboratively with faculty and campus partners, the position will integrate digital citizenship values and information literacy skills across the academic disciplines. This role will lead the design of instruction and outreach to students and faculty, which will inspire and lead the community in exploring the potential of AI in education, while actively guiding faculty and students in navigating its ethical, safe, and responsible use (See our AI Vision Statement: https://www.lawrenceville.org/about-us/ai-at-lawrenceville. Key responsibilities include co-designing lesson plans and assignments with faculty, teaching general and discipline-specific classes, conducting faculty outreach, developing program assessments, and providing campus-wide leadership for the Digital Literacy program.

This position will have service desk and student supervision duties, including one evening per week until 9:50 p.m. and some weekend shifts. As part of the librarian team, this position will also contribute to the strategic planning for library programs, collections, and space. The ideal candidate will have some experience with digital projects and/or experience with digital content management systems.

This is a 10-month position, and it follows the academic calendar.

Essential Responsibilities

• Develop, coordinate, and implement the library’s information and media literacy instruction program, which includes group, individual, and online components, such as LibGuides. Design and conduct the library instruction and orientation sessions for classes. Instruct individual library users on the use of print and electronic resources.
• Partner with administrators, departmental faculty, and course team leaders to ensure that digital literacy skills (media literacy, AI, digital citizenship) are embedded systematically throughout the school. More broadly, establish collaborative and supportive partnerships with faculty, students, and staff in support of faculty and student engagement with the academic services and resources of the library.
• In accordance with our AI Vision Statement, lead and collaborate with campus technology leaders, Dean of Academics, Dean of Faculty, Director of Student AI Projects, ITS, faculty, and others, on promoting the ethical use of AI, digital citizenship and the application of library resources and technology in the classroom. Stay current with emerging technologies and act as the library liaison to various student and faculty initiatives in the areas of AI and technology.
• Support the ethical and effective use of media, technology, and AI tools across the research lifecycle, including discovery, analysis, writing, data visualization, and digital creation. Provide guidance on responsible use, including transparency, attribution, bias, copyright, and academic integrity.
• Work with the Stephan Archives staff to leverage and highlight the growing archival digital collections.
• Work closely with the Community Engagement Librarian and team to market and brand library resources, services, and programs, specifically to increase awareness of electronic resources and digital collections.
• Assist faculty in developing information resources for coursework using LibGuides, Google Education, and Canvas, the school’s learning management system. Create research guides, instruction resources, digital materials, videos/tutorials, and make those resources available to students, faculty, and staff.
• Assist in other general duties, including special projects and programs, collection development, and strategic planning as requested by the Library Director
• Work professionally and cooperatively within the Bunn Library, the School, and the broader Lawrenceville community.

Requirements

• Masters in Library/Information Sciences from an ALA-accredited institution.
• Customer service and outreach experience.
• At least 2 years of demonstrated experience teaching information, media, and digital literacy in an academic or school library setting.
• Experience with digital humanities, archival collections, or other digital projects preferred.
• Experience in Educational Technology, Instructional Design, or Digital Innovation preferred.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written.
• Able to show initiative and flexibility. Must be able to adapt to users who have a wide variety of technology proficiency levels.
• Strong time management skills and the ability to prioritize.
• Must be detailed-oriented, congenial, patient, and reliable.
• Ability to work in a collaborative team.
• Ability and experience to plan, manage, and oversee projects, meet deadlines, and to prioritize work in alignment with the service goals of the library and school.
• Formal training and/or experience with the design and delivery of instruction;
• Strong knowledge about the use of AI in libraries and research, digital content, electronic resources, ebooks, publishing trends, and library technology.
• Demonstrated interest in critical thinking about the use of AI tools and its impacts on the research and learning process;
• Demonstrated ability to continuously learn new skills, technologies, and methods and to apply those to your work.
• Ability to work effectively with a diverse population including young people (teenagers) and adults from diverse cultures.

Work Characteristics and Physical Demands:

• This is a fully in-person role that requires on-campus presence for all student interactions.
• Physical demands are in excess of those for sedentary work. Must be able to remain on their feet for extended periods of time, go up and down flights of steps, as well as stoop, kneel, crouch, and lift.
• Routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, fax machines, etc.
• Must be capable of using visual display terminal with continuous wrist movement on a keyboard
• Required to, talk, hear, walk, use hands to finger, handle or feel and reach with hands and arms
• Must be able to work flexible hours to accommodate students’ schedules. This includes both day and evening responsibilities.
• Must be able to lift up to 20lbs. without assistance
• Ability to see with normal parameters.
