Vantage Data Centers in Frankfurt, Germany seeks a mid-level Database Administrator to install, patch, and manage SQL Server databases across Windows and Linux environments. You will also oversee cloud-based database solutions and support data protection and high-availability needs.

Position Overview

Vantage is seeking a mid-level Database Administrator with experience installing, upgrading, and patching database servers and software across both Windows and Linux environments. This role also includes managing and administering cloud-based database solutions.

The successful candidate will be confident writing queries and developing tables, program views, functions, and stored procedures. They will have experience tuning queries and troubleshooting poor query performance, as well as a strong understanding of data protection and high-availability solutions to ensure business continuity in the event of server failure, data corruption, or user errors. They will be able to use server telemetry software to manage a collection of servers and provide status on the data environment.

As Vantage continues to grow, they will also play an important role in identifying opportunities and strategies to improve processes for data migrations and process automation, which may include programming and using relevant tools.

Essential Job Functions

• Install, patch, upgrade and manage Microsoft SQL Server databases.


• Administer Ubuntu Linux servers.


• Manage server disk space capacity through adding more storage, or archiving storage and then migrating data as needed.


• Ensure database backups are completed regularly and conduct testing to ensure backups are usable.


• Provide tables, views, stored procedures, and functions to facilitate data use by reporting software and other applications.


• Manage database level partitioning where appropriate to manage data.


• Assist users with data requests and queries, provide guidance on query tuning for queries that perform poorly.


• Manage database resources in the cloud, and manage the costs associated with them.


• Manage servers in a database or server telemetry product.


• Write, update, and manage documentation on the database environment.


• Add, update, and remove users from the database servers.


• Migrate data from similar or different database platforms, such as from MySQL to PostgreSQL, or PostgreSQL to PostgreSQL.


• Participate in an on-call rotation for emergency server issues.

Job Requirements

• Fluent English language skills, both spoken and written


• Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative field (Computer Information Systems/Computer Science) or Engineering, or equivalent experience.


• 2-4 years of production database administration experience with Microsoft SQL Server.


• 1-3 years experience with PostgreSQL is a plus.


• 1-3 years of production Linux server experience.


• Experience with Tableau, Power BI or SQL Server Reporting Services is a plus.


• Experience developing in Python, Java, C#, or Go is a plus.


• Proven to be highly accurate and thorough in all tasks.


• Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills are required, along with logical process thinking, the ability to multitask in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and the ability to contribute quickly.

• Travel is expected to be less than 5%, but may increase over time as the business evolves.
