Zusammenfassung

EUMETSAT is seeking a highly motivated Data Processing Systems Engineer to support design, development, verification, and operations transition of data processing systems for satellite ground segments.

The role requires a university degree in a relevant field and strong experience across the full development lifecycle, IV&V activities, and contractor management. International relocation may be required; remote work is not offered.

Qualifikationen

  • Proven experience in engineering of Data Processing systems following established processes and standards (ECSS, CCSDS, OGC).
  • Knowledge of software development lifecycles and change control processes.
  • Experience with IV&V activities, automated testing, and debugging.
  • Ability to manage complex tasks with minimal supervision and coordinate resources.

Aufgaben

  • Define and maintain requirements for Data Processing systems and upgrades.
  • Follow up developments/procurement and integration into full-scale systems.
  • Define/exectute IV&V testing for new or evolved systems and applications.
  • Support scheduling, prioritise deliverables, and assess partner outputs.
  • Plan and execute transition of systems from development to operations.
  • Assist in long-term roadmaps to harmonise engineering across satellite systems.

EUMETSAT is Europe’s meteorological satellite agency - monitoring the weather and climate from space - 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Within the Data Processing Systems Engineering Competence Area (DP S&A) of the Satellite System Ground Segments Division (SGS) Division, the Data Processing Systems Engineers support the design, development/upgrade, verification and validation of Data Processing systems including the associated procurements and support their maintenance and evolutions during the operations phase. For the first years, the post holder is expected to primarily contribute to the transition of the new missions from development to operations.

What you’ll be doing
  • Define and maintain requirements and specifications in support to the development of new Data Processing systems or for upgrades to existing systems;
  • Contribute and follow-up the related developments/procurements and their integration into full scale Data Processing Systems and/or Ground Segments;
  • Contribute to the definition of, execution and follow up of Integration and Verification & Validation (IV&V) testing of new or evolved Data Processing Systems and Applications;
  • Support the scheduling and prioritisation of tasks, and the assessment of the adequacy of deliverables from other teams, organisations or industrial suppliers;
  • Contribute to the definition, planning and execution of the transition and handover of Data Processing Systems from the development phase to routine maintenance and operations;
  • Support the Data Processing Systems and Applications Competence Area Manager in defining long term plans and roadmaps to harmonise engineering, maintenance and evolutions of Data Processing Systems across all satellite systems exploited by EUMETSAT.

Requirements
Qualifications
  • A university degree (or equivalent) in Computer Science, Software or Systems Engineering or another relevant discipline.
Skills and Experience:
  • Proven experience in engineering of Data Processing systems following well established processes, covering the full development lifecycle and relevant technical standards (e.g. ECSS, CCSDS, OGC);
  • Demonstrable knowledge of software development lifecycles and change control processes;
  • Competence in the area of Data Processing Systems Integration, Verification &Validation (IV&V) activities, including automated testing, software testing, unit test suite maintenance, software debugging and profiling;
  • Ability to manage complex tasks with minimum supervision, including planning and prioritisation of activities, allocation and coordination of resources, monitoring and reporting;
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills with proven ability to apply these to a team environment while working within a matrix structure;
  • Experience leading/coordinating engineering teams and in the management of industrial contracts in relevant area will be considered an advantage.
