Zusammenfassung

Starion Group is seeking a Data Processing Engineer to work at our client EUMETSAT's premises in Darmstadt, Germany. You will support the development, maintenance and evolution of data processing systems within the EUMETSAT ground segment environment.

Your main responsibilities will include designing, implementing and integrating data processing architectures, maintaining existing applications and assisting with deployments.

Qualifikationen

  • Proficient in C/C++ in Linux environments.
  • Experience with PostgreSQL and/or MySQL.
  • Strong debugging, memory analysis and profiling skills.
  • Experience with Git/GitLab.
  • Proficient in Bash/Shell scripting.
  • Knowledge of build tools Make and CMake.
  • Experience in EO data processing.
  • Experience operating and maintaining software systems in Linux.
  • Experience with software testing and QA practices.
  • Knowledge of QA and Configuration Management processes.

Aufgaben

  • Support design, implementation and integration of data processing architectures for near-real-time ground segments.
  • Maintain and evolve existing data processing applications.
  • Assist with integration, testing and deployment of software releases and updates.
  • Analyze and resolve operational anomalies using tools like JIRA and APT.
  • Contribute to software configuration management using Dimensions and related tools.
  • Prepare and maintain technical and project documentation.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external service providers.

We are currently looking for a Data Processing Engineer to work at our client’s premises in the city ofDarmstadt, Germany.

You will have the opportunity to support the development and operations of EUMETSAT ground segments for existing and future missions within the EUMETSAT Technical and Scientific Support Department (TSS). One of them is more precisely the EPS‑Sterna (EUMETSAT Polar System – Sterna) : a European satellite program meant to enhance global weather observation capabilities, particularly in polar regions where geostationary satellites have limited coverage.

About the client and location

EUMETSAT operates satellites to monitor weather, climate, and the changing environment. They are responsible for helping to isolate potentially dangerous weather conditions that could affect air travel, farming and other key service industries.

Tasks and activities

As Data Processing Engineer, you will support the development, maintenance and evolution of data processing systems within the EUMETSAT ground segment environment.

Your main responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting the design, implementation and integration of architectures and software components for data processing ground segments, with particular focus on near-real-time Level 0, Level 1 and Level 2 data processing.
  • Supporting the maintenance and evolution of existing operational data processing applications and components.
  • Assisting with the integration, testing and deployment of software releases and system updates.
  • Supporting the analysis and resolution of operational anomalies and user requests, using tools such as JIRA and the Anomaly Processing Tool (APT).
  • Contributing to configuration and software management activities, including the use of Serena Dimensions.
  • Preparing and maintaining technical and project documentation.
  • Participating in technical meetings, reviews and coordination activities with internal teams and external service providers.
  • Recording and monitoring assigned tasks and activities through Atlassian JIRA
Skills and experience

The following skills and experience are mandatory:

  • C/C++ programming experience in Linux environments.
  • Experience with PostgreSQL and/or MySQL.
  • Software debugging, memory analysis and profiling.
  • Experience with Git/GitLab.
  • Competence in Bash/Shell scripting.
  • Knowledge of software building and packaging tools: (e.g. Make, CMake).
  • Experience in operational Earth Observation (EO) science data processing.
  • Experience operating and maintaining software systems in Linux.
  • Competence in software testing, including unit testing, automated testing, verification and validation.
  • Knowledge of relevant standards, Quality Assurance and Configuration Management.
  • Ability to work independently and adapt to a rapidly changing and potentially stressful environment.
  • Excellent technical writing skills, especially for formal technical documentation.
  • Desire to work both autonomously and as part of a team, in an international multicultural environment.
  • Solution oriented mindset, with a customer focused communication skill.
  • Fluent in English, both written and spoken.

The following skills and experience would be highly desirable:

  • Fortran programming experience in Linux.
  • Experience in network programming, particularly TCP/IP and UDP/IP.
  • Knowledge of software building and packaging tools (e.g.RPM)
  • Knowledge of DOORS as requirement management tool.
  • Understanding of Change Management Process and tools (Dimension and APT).
