We are seeking a highly skilled (Senior) Data Engineer to join our Data Capability Tribe at AXA. In this pivotal role, you will have the opportunity to shape and enhance our enterprise-wide data landscape, contributing significantly to the development of our Smart Data Platform — a central, cross-company data hub. Your expertise will support the implementation of data products within an agile environment, working closely with interdisciplinary teams including Data Engineers, Product Owners, Information Architects, and Data Experts. This position offers a unique chance to influence the future of data management and analytics at AXA, ensuring that our data infrastructure is robust, scalable, and aligned with business needs.
The ideal candidate will possess a degree in (Business) Informatics or a comparable quantitative discipline, with at least three years of professional experience in Data Engineering. Practical knowledge of cloud data platforms such as Snowflake, Redshift, or BigQuery is essential, along with experience in building data lakes or data warehouses. Familiarity with advanced modeling techniques like Data Vault 2.0 and complex data modeling challenges, including bitemporal historization, is highly desirable. Strong SQL skills are mandatory, complemented by proficiency in Python for data processing and automation. Experience with modern tools such as dbt, Snowflake, AWS, and DataOps best practices is advantageous. Excellent communication skills in German and English, stakeholder management capabilities, and a keen understanding of large data flows are also required.
You will be responsible for developing, optimizing, and operating the Smart Data Platform, which serves as the backbone of AXA’s data infrastructure. Your role involves creating high-quality ETL/ELT pipelines, integrating diverse data sources, and designing fundamental data models to address complex technical and business challenges. Your expertise will guide the team in utilizing state-of-the-art development technologies and methodologies, such as Snowflake, AWS, and dbt, fostering innovation and continuous improvement. Additionally, you will contribute to establishing best practices in data quality, testing, automation, and DataOps workflows. Your proactive attitude and ability to work independently will be vital in managing tasks, driving initiatives forward, and taking early responsibility in a flat-hierarchy environment.
