Job summary

Allianz Global Investors is seeking a senior data & AI capability lead to build and scale governance, data management and AI enablement across their Benelux/European operations. The role focuses on creating a trusted data framework, aligning with EU regulations, and partnering with legal, data and engineering teams to enable enterprise AI initiatives.

The position will be based in Munich or Frankfurt, with a hybrid work approach and broad collaboration across business units and IT.

Qualifications

• Proven track record building and scaling a capability or operating model in large organisations (data governance, data management, knowledge management or AI enablement).
• Regulatory knowledge: DORA, EU AI Act, GDPR and their implications for AI data usage.
• Solid understanding of data modelling, semantics and ontologies for AI readiness.
• Fluent conceptual understanding of generative AI and retrieval to design AI context usage.
• Experience with modern data platforms and governance tooling (e.g., Databricks).

Responsibilities

• Own and evolve the capability framework that unites business meaning, data, governance and AI-usage context.
• Create and maintain the context model and guidelines for business functions.
• Govern access control, data classification and governance requirements before AI usage.
• Design how AI consumes trusted context and what is exposed to AI by platform engineering.

Allianz Global Investors is building a trusted, well-governed data foundation and making it ready for Artificial Intelligence (AI). As AI moves into everyday investment and business processes, our ambition is for AI applications and agents to work from enterprise data and context that is understandable, traceable and used only where permitted – so their output is accurate, explainable and safe to rely on.

This role leads the development of the capability that makes this possible: the framework, standards and ways of working that connect our data and business context to AI, end to end - and its adoption across the firm.

This position will be based in Munich or Frankfurt.

What you will do

• Own and evolve the capability - the framework that brings together business meaning, data, governance and AI-usage context so enterprise data becomes usable, and trustworthy, for AI
• Build the creation and ownership model - enable business functions to create and maintain the context AI relies on, and set the guidelines they follow
• Govern how context is used - ensure the right access, classification and governance are applied, set the standards data and context must meet before AI can use them, and define how AI is guided to the most relevant context
• Design how AI consumes trusted context - curate the context, instructions and feedback loops behind AI use cases, and decide with platform engineering what is exposed to AI and how it is governed and ranked
• Drive adoption across the firm - roll the model out to business areas, encourage and enable users, and build the training that makes it stick
• Sustain it over time - keep a living library of context current as usage grows, and measure whether context is genuinely improving AI outcomes and implement a lean operating model
• Keep it compliant and connected - ensure that our governance meets EU regulatory expectations (DORA, the EU AI Act, GDPR), and partner closely with legal, data, platform engineering and business teams

What you bring

Essential

• A track record of building and scaling a capability or operating model across a large, complex organisation - ideally in data governance, data management, knowledge management or AI enablement - coaching and influencing teams that retain ownership, rather than relying on formal authority
• Data governance and regulatory knowledge (DORA, EU AI Act, GDPR) and how these apply to the use of data by AI
• A good understanding of data modelling and semantics / ontologies, and why they matter for making data AI-ready
• Conceptual fluency in generative AI and retrieval, sufficient to design and govern how AI consumes context (building the pipelines is done by platform engineering)
• Familiarity with a modern data platform such as Databricks / Unity Catalog - governance, lineage, classification and metadata
• Excellent stakeholder management, communication and enablement - able to make technical concepts accessible and to build adoption across business and technical teams

Desirable

• Experience in asset management or financial services
• Experience standing up and scaling a governance, knowledge or enablement capability
• Hands-on experience with ontology tooling and metadata / catalogue platforms and/or data context
