A global technology company in Wuppertal is seeking a Customs Specialist to manage import/export operations primarily for Germany and the UK. The role requires a Bachelor's degree, fluency in German and English, and 5-7 years of experience in customs operations. Responsibilities include managing customs brokers, supporting audit processes, and ensuring compliance with customs regulations. Reporting to the EMEA Logistics operation lead, the DE / UK Customs Specialist is responsible for the flawless execution of import / export operations with primary focus Germany and United Kingdom. The Customs Specialist will ensure that a high level of collaboration exists between primary carriers, customs brokers, suppliers and EDS plants and operation to achieve an industry-standard end-to-end operations for inbound and outbound flows as well as all flows between the EDS entities located across Europe.
Your role :
Management of the relationships with current and potential customs brokers through daily interactions and monthly business reviews (MBRs).
For the countries under his / her purview
Customs Brokers point of contact for escalations and resolution of operational issues affecting the performance and execution of customs operations
Prepare and submit all customs requests for duty Monitor any duty relief programs
First point of contact for all external customs audits, as well as independent internal auditor for all special customs regimes (AEO, OPR, Pref Origin)
Submit all customs authorizations to the authorities and manage any renewals (for country / countries under direct responsibility.
Support import / export department
Provide support to Global Trade Operations (GTC) manager on targeted / specific customs topics and projects related to country / countries under direct responsibility
Review and support on customs operational matters for EDS
Customs requests for duty refunds management (in case of overpayment made and / or after receipt of retrospective preferential origin documents.
Monitor duty relief programs and supported by GTC, and where applicable, implement
First point of contact for all external customs audits
Support business in communication of classification issues to Aptiv Classification Team and maintain and monitor all customs related internal procedures (classification, valuation, preferred origin determination, etc.)
Monitor customs broker requirements and activities to ensure compliance with legal and Aptiv requirements
Reporting activities
Monthly contracted broker reporting activity responsibility
Customs spend analysis (for country / countries under direct responsibility)
Manage current regional report and actively support the implementation and management of a Duties Spend and Savings tool Analysis
Represent GTO in all Aptiv Business units under direct responsibility in customs related topics(including RFQ, Value stream, CIRF+, etc.)
Report, communicate and coordinate operational customs matters on an ongoing basis with EMEA GTO Manager.
Operations Excellence :
Track achievements, penalties and manage customs brokerage related KPIs for the countriesunder his / her purview.
Update custosms processes as required by regulatory or business operating developmentsthat enables Aptiv to maintain high customs compliance level in a cost-effective manner
Your background :
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Law, or related field.
High energy, results-oriented individual with 5-7 year-experience managing customs operations in an industrial environment.
Provenknowledgeandpracticeofinternationaltradeandrelatedtransportationmodesand 3PL / 4PL operations
S / he must demonstrate commitment to Excellence in Operations, have direct and cross-functional communication ability, and apply sharp focus on responsibility and accountability.
Demonstrate key functional competencies in multiple EU-related customs programs.
Strongfocusoncustomersatisfaction,senseofurgencyandbiasforactionareunwavering requirements for this role.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
Fluency in German & English language (spoken and written)
