Control Software Engineer - Testing & Integration (m/f/d)

REQUISITION ID: 12924

LOCATION: Hamburg, DE, 22419

Join our Control Software Development team and contribute to the development of reliable control software for our wind turbines. You will work at the interface between control engineering, software integration and testing, ensuring that complex control functions perform reliably from simulation and laboratory testing through to operation in the field.

Your Tasks

  • Integrate newly developed control functions into the wind turbine software, ensuring that individual controller functions interact correctly with each other and with the overall turbine control system
  • Define test strategies, test cases and acceptance criteria for closed-loop control software and translate functional and system requirements into meaningful verification and validation activities
  • Plan, develop and execute Software-in-the-Loop (SiL) and Hardware-in-the-Loop (HiL) tests, using real controller hardware and simulated turbine environments to validate software behavior under realistic operating conditions
  • Develop complex and system-oriented test scenarios that go beyond individual signals or functions and assess the dynamic behavior and interaction of multiple control functions within the complete wind turbine system
  • Design and further develop integrated tests for wind turbine and wind farm control systems, validating the interaction between turbine controllers and higher-level wind farm control functions, including increasingly complex grid requirements
  • Develop and enhance automated test frameworks, test scripts and regression tests, e.g. using Python, to increase test coverage, repeatability and efficiency throughout the software development process
  • Analyze test results and unexpected system behavior, identify software defects and root causes, and work closely with control function developers, software engineers and system engineers to implement and verify appropriate solutions
  • Support the investigation of software-related field issues by reproducing failures in the test environment, performing systematic troubleshooting and deriving additional or improved test cases to prevent recurrence
  • Perform robustness, fault-injection and abnormal-condition testing to assess software behavior under failure scenarios and extreme operating conditions, while maintaining structured test documentation and traceability between requirements, test cases and results

Your Profile

  • Master’s degree in Control Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Automation Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Software Engineering or a comparable technical discipline with a strong focus on control or automation systems
  • Strong theoretical understanding of control engineering, closed-loop control systems and dynamic systems, combined with the ability to apply these principles to practical software and system-level problems
  • Practical experience in control software, embedded software or controller-based systems, ideally involving the integration, verification or validation of complex control functions
  • Experience with HiL and/or SiL testing and a good understanding of how simulation and hardware-based test environments can be used to validate complex dynamic systems
  • Knowledge of PLC/SPS programming, industrial control systems, ECUs or embedded controllers; experience from wind energy, automotive, industrial automation or other control-intensive industries is highly welcome
  • Programming or scripting skills, preferably in Python, and ideally hands‑on experience in developing automated test cases, test scripts, regression tests or test frameworks
  • Proven ability to develop test scenarios independently rather than only executing predefined test cases, including defining relevant test conditions, interpreting results and identifying gaps in existing test coverage
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with experience in root-cause analysis, software debugging and defect investigation; hands‑on experience in identifying or fixing software bugs would be an advantage
  • A proactive and independent engineering mindset with the motivation to continuously improve testing approaches and test coverage in an evolving technical environment, combined with very good English skills; German and/or Spanish are an advantage
