This opportunity is part ofEU-funded Next-Gen 3D Food Printing project , a flagship national and transnational European project uniting regional R&D excellence in North Rhine-Westphalia with a cross-border ecosystem of leading academic, industrial, and living-lab partners across the EU. We are seeking an ambitious Computational R&D Engineer in the Cologne area to contribute to the core development of a dedicated non-Newtonian parametric slicing engine. Guided by senior technical advisors within an international EU research environment, you will design algorithms that convert digital gastronomic structures into optimized G-code. This full-time role is ideal for an M.Sc. graduate in Computer Science or Applied Mathematics with experience in geometry processing or CAD/CAM systems.

Key Responsibilities:

• Contribute to the implementation of parametric slicing algorithms tailored for non-Newtonian organic matrices.
• Develop toolpath generation algorithms, variable volumetric flow-rate compensation, and thermal curve adjustments.
• Translate empirical rheological data into dynamic software compensation parameters.
• Test and refine software-hardware interaction mechanisms with functional printer prototypes.

Requirements:

• Master’s degree (M.Sc.) in Computer Science, Computational Mathematics, Software Engineering, or related fields.
• Strong programming foundations in C++, Python, or Rust.
• Academic or thesis project experience in CAD/CAM geometry processing, 3D slicer architecture (e.g., Cura, PrusaSlicer), or fluid/rheological modeling.
• Fluency in English.
