Your team

You will be part of the Positioning and Outreach Division in the Directorate Digital Euro. Our Directorate has a growing team of approximately 100 staff shaping the future of European payments and ensuring people across the euro area continue to have secure and convenient ways to pay, both in cash and digitally.

For more information about the digital euro project, please visit the hub page on the ECB’s website.

The Positioning and Outreach Division aims to foster public understanding of, and trust in, the digital euro and is responsible for the positioning and outreach strategy and plan.

In your role as a Communication Expert, you will be part of the Positioning team, which is charged with designing, developing and implementing the digital euro positioning and branding strategy, to ensure that we are ready to support a launch across all euro area countries should the decision to issue a digital euro be taken.

The role offers a stimulating work environment with a high potential for learning. We welcome candidates who are hands‑on, collaborative, adaptable and solutions‑focused. You will be working closely with colleagues across the Positioning and Outreach Division and the wider digital euro project team.

The ECB is an inclusive employer and we strive to reflect the diversity of the population we serve. We encourage you to apply irrespective of age, disability, ethnicity, gender, gender identity, race, religious beliefs, sexual orientation or other characteristics.

Your role

As one of our two new Communication Experts, focusing primarily on either go‑to‑market positioning or go‑to‑market engagement, you will:

Go‑to‑market positioning
  • lead the creation of draft go‑to‑market positioning strategies and plans for end‑user audiences, seeking to foster awareness, trust and adoption of the digital euro;
  • develop and propose B2C and B2B multi‑channel initiatives (e.g. digital campaigns, events, partnerships and educational programmes) to encourage everyday use of the digital euro;
  • design and implement positioning campaigns (e.g. on pilot participation, general launch and ecosystem integration) in collaboration with national central banks, while monitoring and adapting for resonance and impact;
  • partner closely with product proposition, market roll‑out, strategy engagement and outreach teams to ensure aligned and compliant messaging and roll‑out plans;
  • manage external agencies and local market specialists to develop localised campaigns aligned with overarching strategy and regulatory guidelines.
Go‑to‑market engagement
  • support national central banks in designing and developing localised go‑to‑market positioning strategies that balance harmonised euro area messaging with country‑specific outreach;
  • develop multiplier programmes and public education campaigns to raise awareness and understanding of the digital euro (e.g. functionality, benefits, safety and privacy);
  • equip national central banks with campaign assets, messaging and materials that reinforce credibility and effectiveness;
  • collaborate with national central bank communications teams to test materials and ensure alignment with ECB communication frameworks.

The positions offer you excellent opportunities to shape the way the digital euro is introduced, understood and adopted across Europe by designing and implementing go‑to‑market strategies and connecting directly with people and businesses. You will develop innovative B2C and B2B campaigns, support national central banks in tailoring outreach to local contexts, and manage agencies and partners to deliver impactful initiatives. You will be part of a multicultural team that strives for continuous innovation to make a positive impact on the lives of European citizens.

Qualifications, experience and skills

Essential:

  • a master’s degree or equivalent in marketing, communications or another relevant field (see How you can join us for details on degree equivalences);
  • in addition to the above, a minimum of four years’ professional experience in B2C and B2B marketing, go‑to‑market marketing or a related area;
  • experience in leading the development of go‑to‑market marketing strategies and multi‑channel campaigns, including digital campaigns, events, partnerships and educational programmes, or experience with public‑private marketing partnerships;
  • proven project management skills, with the ability to coordinate multiple stakeholders, agencies and timelines;
  • strong skills in market research and translating insights into actionable marketing strategies;
  • an advanced (C1) command of English and an intermediate (B1) command of at least one other official language of the EU, according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.
Desired
  • knowledge of the payments industry, retail and e‑commerce ecosystems, or financial innovation;
  • familiarity with financial inclusion initiatives;
  • an ability to work collaboratively in a complex institutional setting with many different stakeholders.

You engage collaboratively with others. You pursue team goals and learn willingly from other people’s diverse perspectives. You signal any need for change by explaining it and proposing alternative solutions. You analyse complex information effectively and can evaluate different views to arrive at solutions. You know and anticipate stakeholder needs.

You are motivated to contribute to the ECB’s mission, to serve the citizens of the EU as a member of a public institution and to work with colleagues from all over Europe.

You are motivated to be part of our team and to develop and use your skills and competencies to achieve the aims of this position.
