Job Overview

Amazon seeks a detail‑oriented Data Center Chief Engineer to join our Data Center Engineering Operations Team in Rüsselsheim, with flexible travel within EMEA. The CE is responsible for maintaining 100% availability of MEP systems, coordinating preventive and corrective maintenance, and serving as the primary technical resource for onsite technicians and vendors.

Responsibilities

• Oversee day‑to‑day operations and maintenance of mechanical and electrical equipment in data centers.
• Operate independently with limited direct management.
• Act as an escalation point for all facilities‑related issues and work overtime as needed.
• Assist in the design and build‑out of new facilities.
• Perform root‑cause analysis of equipment failures.
• Diagnose and report facility and data‑center‑level events within internal SLA.
• Create and deploy new standard practices for Engineering Operations Technicians, Chief Engineers, and vendor support teams.
• Provide training and guidance to Engineering Operations Technicians and support recruiting efforts.
• Ensure all safety procedures are adhered to by vendor and Amazon staff.
• Utilize internal Change Management/CMMS systems to manage building workflows.
• Implement MV/LV isolation to facilitate MV maintenance.
• Provide metric availability reporting on a weekly basis.
• Communicate complex technical information to non‑technical audiences.

Preferred Qualifications

• Electrical or mechanical Journeyman License.
• Operating engineering license such as DC II, DC III, or equivalent.
• Experience in construction or project management.
• Certified Switching Operator.

Rüsselsheim, Germany. Salary range: EUR 80,000 – 110,000 per year. Flexible travel across EMEA required.
