Zusammenfassung

BIOWEG in Germany seeks a Master’s student for an internship in biotechnology. You will work with the Biotechnology team to scale up processes, gain hands-on experience in fermentation from start to end, and operate in lab and pilot-scale environments.

You will support upstream and downstream processes, document results, and help maintain SOPs and equipment. A fast-paced, collaborative setting with emphasis on GLP compliance and safety awaits the successful candidate.

Qualifikationen

• Master’s degree in Biotechnology, Microbiology, Bioprocessing or Life sciences.
• Experience with microorganisms and aseptic techniques per GLP guidance.
• Familiar with basic lab equipment such as microbiology cabinet, centrifuge and fermenters.
• Proficient with MS Office; Excel and PowerPoint required.
• Pilot/manufacturing environment experience is a plus.
• Able to lift 10–15 kg; hands-on, fast-paced work.
• Fluent English, both spoken and written; strong communication.

Overview

Your Role

• Maintain the workflow pipeline for the production process
• Perform basic laboratory procedures, including sample preparation, and prepare media and reagents for upstream fermentations in a production environment
• Support downstream processing methods and assist in setting up and maintaining pilot equipment and processes
• Assist with experimental setup, execution, data collection, and analysis, ensuring accurate reporting and documentation
• Monitor and record data during experiments, ensuring strict adherence to SOPs, process protocols, and batch records
• Write and update SOPs for processes and equipment where applicable.
• Ensure the cleanliness and organization of the work area
• Handle moderately heavy equipment, lift materials, and process products as needed.
• Maintain and ensure the proper functioning of equipment
• Collaborate with team members to troubleshoot technical issues and ensure the optimal performance of equipment

Your Profile

• Currently pursuing a Master in or related to Biotechnology, Microbiology, Bioprocessing Engineering, Biochemistry, Biology or Life science
• Experience working with microorganisms and following GLP and aseptic techniques
• Familiarity with basic laboratory equipment such as Microbiology Safety Cabinet, Centrifuge, Dead end filters, Benchtop fermenters, etc.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel and PowerPoint, is required
• Experience in pilot or manufacturing environments is a plus
• Ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting objects of 10-15 kg when necessary.
• Fluency in English, bothverbal and written
• Must be able to work effectively in a hands‑on, fast‑paced environment and collaborate on interdisciplinary fermentation-related projects
• Detail-oriented, reliable, and capable of managing multiple tasks efficiently
• Strong communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a multicultural team environment
