Rollbox in Berlin is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to design and ship REST and WebSocket APIs that power inventory and collectible drops. You will work closely with teams on API design, code correctness, and performance while mentoring others.

The ideal candidate has over 3 years of experience with Node.js and TypeScript, as well as a strong background in operating production services. Offering a hybrid work schedule with relocation support for candidates moving to Berlin, plus additional benefits such as wellness stipends.

Our backend powers the entire RollBox economy: box configurations, drop probabilities, inventory ownership, the trade engine, and provably-fair drop verification. Every endpoint we ship is on the critical path of someone unboxing a rare collectible.

You will work on services written in Node and TypeScript, talking to Postgres and Redis, and increasingly to event-streaming infrastructure. We care about correctness first, performance second, and clever abstractions a distant third.

You will collaborate with the frontend team on API design, with infra on deployment, and with product on what to build next. Expect to be senior on the things you own, even at this level.

What you'll do

• Design and ship REST and WebSocket APIs powering inventory and drops
• Model new game and economy mechanics in Postgres with safe migrations
• Write code that handles money, ownership, and concurrency without surprises
• Build observability into every service you touch — logs, metrics, traces
• Review pull requests and raise the bar on testing across the team

What we're looking for

• 3+ years building production services in Node and TypeScript
• Comfortable with Redis for caching, queues, and pub/sub
• Experience operating services in production (deploys, paging, postmortems)
• Pragmatic taste in testing — knows when to mock and when to hit a real DB

Nice to have

• Experience with provably-fair systems, RNG, or cryptographic verification
• Background in payments, ledgers, or any money-handling domain
• Familiarity with Kafka, NATS, or other event-streaming platforms
• Hybrid schedule — two days in our Berlin office, three from home
