Travelcircus is seeking an experienced Backend Engineer (m/f/x) to join our development team in Berlin. You’ll build and extend our platform services and booking systems, and design a robust API platform used internally and by third parties.

You’ll work on AI-assisted development and participate in code reviews and pair programming. You should have 4+ years of backend experience, strong PHP/OOP, SQL knowledge, and familiarity with AI tools and Agile environments.

Qualifikationen

• 4+ years of experience building web applications and distributed web services.
• Knowledge of PHP / OOP, relational databases and data modelling.
• Good understanding of SQL and the ability to write and debug queries.
• Experience with AI agents like Claude or Codex; knowledge of AI tools and best practices.
• Experience with Linux/macOS command line.
• Experience using message queues and Elasticsearch is a plus.
• Strong communication skills, fluency in English; German is a plus.
• Experience working in Agile environments.

Travelcircus is seeking an experienced (4+ years) Backend Engineer (m/f/x) to join the development team. We're looking for someone who's passionate about building robust & scalable technology platforms, systems and APIs. Ideal candidates will have experience with PHP, AI supported software engineering, API development and Service-Oriented Architectures.

Things you will work on

• Building and extending our Platform Services and Booking Systems
• Designing, developing, and maintaining a robust transactional API platform, that will be used internally and directly by 3rd parties
• Keeping up with the state-of-the-art of AI assisted development and applying it to everyday tasks
• Participating in code reviews and pair programming
• Improving our existing platform codebase which is used by tens of thousands of users on a daily basis
• Addressing bugs and performance issues

Your profile

• Experience in building web applications and distributed web services (4+ years)
• Knowledge of PHP / OOP, relational databases and data modelling
• Good understanding of SQL and the ability to write and debug queries
• Experience with common AI agents like Claude or Codex;
• Knowledge of current AI tools, best practices, knowing what is hype and what is useful
• Experience with Linux/macOS command line
• Experience using message queues and Elasticsearch is a plus
• Strong visual, verbal and written communication skills, fluency in english, german is a plus
• Experience working in Agile environments
