We’re looking for a Backend Engineer to:

  • drive the strategic design and evolution of backend platforms that enable AI‑powered HR solutions at scale — influencing how UBS attracts, develops, and supports its global workforce.
  • apply a broad range of modern engineering practices, from analyzing user needs and developing new features to automated testing, deployment and observability.
  • ensure the quality, security, reliability, and compliance of our solutions by applying our digital principles and implementing both functional and non‑functional requirements.
  • build observability into our solutions, monitor production health, help to resolve incidents, and remediate the root cause of risks and issues.
  • act as a thought partner to senior stakeholders, translating complex challenges into elegant, data‑driven solutions.
  • share your knowledge openly, contribute to hiring and onboarding, and help shape a collaborative, forward‑thinking engineering culture.

Your team

You’ll be part of the AI Engineering team within the GOTO Group HRCS Technology organization. Our mission is to simplify and digitize the HR application landscape while delivering AI‑powered solutions that enhance the employee experience. Based in Krakow, Poland, you’ll work in an agile, autonomous pod alongside product managers, designers, and fellow engineers, with a strong focus on collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.

Your expertise
  • Proven leadership in backend engineering, with expertise in designing and scaling enterprise‑grade systems using Java, Spring Boot, and cloud‑native technologies.
  • Proficiency in REST API and GraphQL schema design.
  • Experience with NoSQL data modelling (e.g. Azure Cosmos DB), data streaming (e.g. Confluent Kafka), and authentication/authorization protocols (OAuth 2.0, MSFT EntraID).
  • Familiarity with Azure Cloud Services (App Services, Azure Monitor, API Management).
  • A collaborative communicator — you express ideas clearly in English and adapt technical content for diverse audiences, while working closely with product managers, designers, and engineers in agile settings.
  • A strong commitment to quality, maintainability, documentation, and continuous learning.
  • Hands‑on experience with AI frameworks (e.g. Spring AI, LangChain, LlamaIndex, TensorFlow) are a strong plus.
  • Academic degree - a must have.
