Scientific Environment

The professorship will be assigned to the TUM Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering and affiliated with the TUM Department of Architecture at the TUM School of Engineering and Design.

The professorship is embedded in a unique interdisciplinary environment spanning architecture, civil engineering and environmental engineering at TUM. The research setting combines internationally recognized expertise, excellent laboratories and strong research networks. Close links to industry and public authorities provide outstanding opportunities for translational research and societal impact in shaping the future of the built environment.

Responsibilities

The responsibilities include research and teaching as well as the promotion of early-career scientists. We seek to appoint an expert in the research area of Regenerative Design and Construction, advancing circular and climate-responsive approaches for buildings, infrastructure and urban systems through computational design, digital modelling, simulation, and data-driven decision-support methods. Areas of interest include adaptive reuse, biobased materials, life-cycle-oriented assessment methods, and transformation pathways for the built environment. Teaching responsibilities include courses in the university's bachelor and master programs.

Qualifications

We are looking for candidates who have demonstrated excellent achievements in research and teaching in an internationally recognized scientific environment, relative to the relevant career level (please see www.tum.de/en/faculty-recruiting-faq/ for further information). A university degree and an outstanding doctoral degree or equivalent scientific qualification, as well as pedagogical aptitude and the ability to teach in English, are prerequisites. Substantial research experience abroad is expected. Furthermore, the successful candidate should demonstrate experience in translating scientific knowledge into planning and construction and decision-making processes and, ideally, experience collaborating with industry. The candidate should also demonstrate expertise in circular construction and the transformation of existing building stock, complemented by experience in leveraging digital technologies and computational methods to support design, assessment, monitoring and decision-making across the building life cycle.
