Mitsui & Co. Deutschland GmbH is seeking an Accountant / Assistant Accountant (m/f/d) to support the Business Support and Control Department. This full-time role (38.5 hours) offers hybrid work, VAT and Intrastat reporting, and collaboration across departments to ensure accurate financial reporting and compliance.

The position requires a degree in business/finance/accounting or IHK qualification and experience in accounting, with SAP S/4HANA knowledge and strong English/German communication.

Qualifications

University degree in business/finance/accounting or equivalent
Commercial training with IHK qualification as Accountant preferred
Professional experience in accounting, finance, taxation or similar role

Responsibilities

Process, verify, and post supplier and customer invoices
Support monthly, quarterly, and annual financial closings
Analyze financial performance vs budgets and forecasts
Maintain general ledger and master data accuracy
Partner with departments on accounting matters
Assist in projects, system enhancements and process improvements
Prepare Intrastat reports and VAT returns
Review VAT transactions for regulatory compliance
Support corporate and trade tax reporting
Prepare financial reports and management information for decision-making
Contribute to forecasting, budgeting and planning

Accountant / Assistant Accountant (m/f/d)

Key responsibilities:

As part of our Business Support and Control Department, you will play a key role in ensuring accurate financial reporting, regulatory compliance, and business support through financial analysis and accounting expertise. Your responsibilities will include:

Processing, verifying, and posting supplier and customer invoices
Supporting monthly, quarterly, and annual financial closing activities
Analysing financial performance and business results against budgets and forecasts
Maintaining general ledger accounts and ensuring the accuracy of accounting master data
Acting as a trusted business partner and point of contact for accounting-related matters across various business departments
Supporting the implementation of new projects, system enhancements, and process improvements within the Accounting and Business Support and Control Department
Preparing and submitting Intrastat reports and VAT returns
Reviewing and monitoring VAT-relevant transactions to ensure compliance with applicable regulations
Supporting the calculation and reporting of corporate and trade tax obligations
Preparing financial reports, analyses, statistics, and management information to support business decision-making
Contributing to forecasting, budgeting, and business planning processes

Your qualifications and Experience:

Successfully completed university studies (bachelor’s or master’s degree) in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, or a related field
Or completed commercial training supplemented by further professional qualification as an Accountant (IHK), ideally as an International Accountant (IHK)
Professional experience in accounting, finance, taxation, or a comparable position.
Sound knowledge of German accounting principles (HGB) and a good understanding of international accounting standards.
Solid knowledge of taxation, particularly VAT regulations and compliance requirements.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel
Experience working with SAP S/4HANA or SAP HANA.
