Jobbeschreibung

Have you ever wondered how Amazon delivers timely and reliably hundreds of millions of packages to customers' doorsteps? Are you passionate about data and mathematics and hope to impact the experience of millions of customers? Are you obsessed with designing simple algorithmic solutions to very challenging problems?

If so, we look forward to hearing from you!

Amazon STEP Science and Tech is seeking Applied (or Research) Scientists. As a key member of the central Research Science Team of logistics operations, these individuals will be responsible for designing algorithmic solutions based on data and mathematics to optimize the end-to-end Amazon supply chain network.

The position is based at the EU Headquarters in Luxembourg, with alternatives in Barcelona, Berlin, or London, designed to maximize interaction with the team and stakeholders.

Key job responsibilities

  • Solve complex optimization and machine learning problems using scalable algorithmic techniques.
  • Design and develop efficient research prototypes that address real-world problems in Amazon's massive logistics network.
  • Lead complex, time-bound, long-term, as well as ad hoc analyses to assist decision-making.
  • Communicate results from business analysis, strategies, and tactics to leadership.

A day in the life

  • Brainstorm algorithmic approaches with teammates to solve challenging problems for Amazon logistics operations.
  • Develop and test prototype solutions with advanced algorithmic techniques.
  • Extract insights from Amazon's extensive data to improve these solutions.
  • Collaborate with scientists, engineers, stakeholders, and customers to enhance and adopt solutions.

About the team

The Science and Tech (SnT) team of EU STEP seeks candidates eager to impact the world with mathematical and data-driven skills.

We are the End-to-End Supply Chain optimizers. As the core research team, we support Amazon's logistics growth by enabling data-driven decision-making in a complex ecosystem.

Our algorithms provide leadership confidence to invest hundreds of millions of euros annually.

We enjoy solving real-world problems quickly, embracing failures and learning opportunities along the way.

Our work involves modular algorithms for combinatorial optimization, parallelization, approximation algorithms, deep learning, bandits, and reinforcement learning, often collaborating with Amazon scholars and academic experts.

We code our prototypes to be production-ready

While we prefer provably optimal solutions, we accept heuristics when necessary for performance. Correct modeling is highly valued.

Qualifications include a PhD or Master's degree with experience in CS, CE, ML, or related fields, along with experience in building models for business applications, patents or publications, programming in Java, C, Python, or similar, and expertise in algorithms, data structures, optimization, data mining, parallel computing, or high-performance computing.

Amazon is an equal opportunities employer committed to diversity. We make hiring decisions based on experience and skills and value passion for invention, simplification, and building. We prioritize privacy and data security, as detailed in our Privacy Notice.
