Technical Product Manager – Foundational AI Technology (m/f/d)

Your mission

We are looking for a technically skilled Product Manager (m/f/d) to strengthen our core AI technology development. In this role, you work closely with our Machine Learning Engineers – while you don't implement models yourself, you bring a deep understanding of generative AI. You identify technological potential, strategically prioritize initiatives, gather requirements from customer facing product teams and actively shape the further development of our core AI technology.

Together with your team, you build foundational ML components and platform features that serve as the basis for customer-facing product teams. Your goal is to continuously improve and strategically evolve this technology base – at the intersection of user needs, research, and engineering.

Your responsibilities in detail:

• Technical product strategy and platform enablement
  • You develop and prioritize the roadmap for our core AI technologies
  • You act as a liaison to customer-facing product teams: you gather and consolidate requirements and translate them into actionable ML core functionality
  • You identify new technologies, model architectures, inference methods and fine-tuning strategies and evaluate their potential for our platform
  • You promote robust, reusable LLM components for other teams
  • You monitor product performance and analyze relevant KPIs to drive continuous improvement
• Collaboration with machine learning engineering
  • You closely align with ML engineers to discuss technical concepts
  • You jointly evaluate new approaches – you contribute the product/application perspective, while the ML team brings implementation expertise
  • You drive and prioritize technical improvements (e.g. fine-tuning enhancements, more efficient inference, model compression)
  • You coordinate timely, high-quality implementation in a cross-functional team
  • You foster an iterative, experiment-driven development approach
  • You work with QA to ensure robustness and quality
• Stakeholder communication and coordination
  • You communicate product strategy, roadmap and progress to internal stakeholders
  • You support customer-facing product teams in integrating new AI core functionalities into their products
  • You actively engage with product teams and business stakeholders to align AI development with strategic company goals
  • You capture and translate feedback from end users and product teams into requirements for core AI technology development

Your profile

• Master's degree (or higher) in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Computational Linguistics, or a related technical field
• Deep understanding of generative AI models and their training and inference strategies (e.g., differences and use cases of autoregressive vs. diffusion-based models; fine-tuning methods such as Supervised Fine-Tuning (SFT), Direct Preference Optimization (DPO), Online Reinforcement Learning)
• Experience in evaluating, applying, or managing LLMs (open-source or proprietary)
• Ability to read and understand scientific papers and translate them into product decisions
• Several years of experience in technical product management or a comparable role at the intersection of ML and product development
• Strong intuition for technical feasibility and product impact
• Excellent communication skills – you serve as a translator between ML, product, and business
• Self-organized, pragmatic, and structured – you keep a clear head even in complex projects
• Ability to break down complex topics into actionable, incremental steps
• Experience in building and maintaining product roadmaps and prioritizing technical initiatives
• Proficiency in English (C1 level or higher); ideally also very good German skills
