We are Improving, an IT services firm focused on AI, Data, and Applications. We modernize legacy systems, build cloud-native platforms, and deliver future-ready solutions through collaborative, long-term partnerships. In this role, we work within teams responsible for mission-critical, SQL Server-resident business logic. We reverse-engineer and document existing T-SQL artifacts, protect behavior through automated tests, refactor safely, and drive performance and reliability improvements. You will partner closely with C#/.NET engineers and our DBAs to ensure correct app-to-database boundaries and an engineering/administration split that scales.
We reverse-engineer and document existing T-SQL stored procedures, functions, triggers, views, and SQL Server Agent jobs to capture undocumented business logic.
We build automated and characterization tests around critical SQL Server-resident business logic to preserve required behavior during change.
We safely refactor complex or fragile T-SQL while ensuring business behavior remains correct and unchanged from a functional perspective.
We troubleshoot production issues involving SQL logic, data processing, performance, and concurrency.
We analyze execution plans and use SQL Server diagnostics to resolve performance problems.
We partner with C#/.NET engineers on app-to-database boundaries and collaborate with DBAs on the engineering/administration split.
Advanced T-SQL: strong experience with stored procedures, UDFs, views, triggers, and SQL Server Agent jobs.
Query optimization: execution-plan analysis, indexing, and tuning, with hands-on capability to address concurrency/locking/deadlock challenges.
App-to-database troubleshooting: working familiarity with C#/.NET sufficient to troubleshoot how application behavior interacts with database logic.
Experience: minimum 8 years relevant experience, matching a Senior/architect-level standard.
Collaboration & mindset: we value careful analysis, attention to detail, and a disciplined approach to change management. We work in partnership with engineers and DBAs- so we expect clear communication, ownership of outcomes, and the ability to translate complex database behavior into well-documented logic and reliable tests.
