Job summary

Pond & Company in Bogotá seeks a Substation Engineer to design and implement substation protection and control systems for U.S. utility projects while based in Colombia.

You will develop diagrams, perform calculations, support SCADA integration, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver compliant, high-quality engineering deliverables on schedule. The role requires 5+ years in substation engineering, experience with protection schemes, and proficiency in MicroStation/AutoCAD;

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in substation engineering with focus on protection and control
• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline
• Experience developing protection and control drawings and construction deliverables for utility substations
• Familiarity with relay protection schemes, relay logic development, and protection philosophies
• Basic understanding of SCADA systems and substation communications
• Proficiency with MicroStation and AutoCAD
• Strong familiarity with NESC, IEEE, and other utility industry codes and standards
• Experience supporting U.S.-based utility or consulting engineering projects preferred
• English proficiency at B2 level or higher (required to support U.S.-based teams and clients)
• Strong communication and collaboration skills in a multidisciplinary engineering environment

Responsibilities

• Develop electric substation design drawings, including single-line diagrams and schematics
• Prepare and review protection and control design packages for utility substations
• Perform engineering calculations such as battery sizing and voltage drop
• Apply relay protection schemes for transmission and distribution substations
• Develop technical equipment specifications and engineering work scopes
• Support SCADA integration through coordination with teams
• Review designs for technical accuracy and compliance with project requirements
• Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams across design, civil, and project management
• Ensure designs comply with U.S. utility standards and industry codes
• Support construction activities and field investigations during project execution
• Collaborate with U.S.-based teams to meet schedule and quality goals
• Contribute to standards development and engineering best practices
