Job summary

Open LMS is seeking a Senior Cloud Infrastructure Engineer to design, build, and scale a multi-tenant SaaS hosting platform on AWS. The role spans Terraform, Puppet, Python automation, and observability, with a hands-on focus on Linux systems and distributed architecture.

You will own platform architecture, influence technical direction, and collaborate across teams to improve deployment workflows, incident response, and platform reliability.

Qualifications

• Strong experience with AWS in production (EC2, RDS, S3, SQS, Lambda, ALB, ElastiCache, Route 53, IAM, VPC)
• Proficiency in authoring Terraform modules for production infrastructure
• Proficiency in Puppet modules for fleet management
• Strong Python skills for production daemons
• Deep Linux systems knowledge (Ubuntu) and networking fundamentals
• Understanding of distributed systems concepts (consensus, leader election, eventual consistency)
• Experience with observability pipelines (Prometheus, Grafana, Loki) in production
• Comfortable with GitLab-based CI/CD workflow
• Clear communicator of architectural decisions and tradeoffs

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain AWS infrastructure using Terraform
• Write and maintain Puppet modules to configure fleets of EC2 instances
• Maintain and extend Python-based automation and tooling
• Operate and improve distributed service discovery (etcd)
• Manage and tune multi-tier caching (Varnish, Redis, OPcache)
• Run and scale observability stack (Prometheus, Grafana, Loki) and participate in on-call rotations
• Evaluate and implement distributed storage solutions
• Improve deployment workflows and release processes
• Collaborate on API contracts and operational tooling
• Participate in incident response and root cause analysis
