The City of Austin is seeking Seasonal – Athletic Official III to officiate Youth, Teen, Adult Sport Leagues and Clinics at various City recreation centers and fields within city limits.

Hours vary by league play, typically 15–30 hours per week. Candidates must have 5+ years officiating experience and the required officiating certification. The role may involve travel to multiple locations and work during events and emergencies.

About This Position

Job Description:

Duties, Functions and Responsibilities:

• Enforce all policies and procedures in a fair and professional manner.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Must possess required knowledge, skills, abilities and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.

• Knowledge of athletic programs and activities.

• Knowledge of safety practices and procedures.

• Skill in oral and written communication.

• Skill in problem solving.

• Skill in handling multiple tasks and prioritizing.

• Ability to work with children and teens, including youth with special needs.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Must have a minimum of 5 years officiating experience and have required officiating certification.

Preferred Experience:

• Experience officiating athletic events/activities.

• Experience officiating in one or more of the following athletic activities: Basketball, Soccer, Indoor Volleyball, Flag Football, Pickleball, Sand Volleyball, Kickball, Youth Kickball, and Youth Volleyball.

Other:

• Ability to travel to more than one work location.

The purposeof the Seasonal – Athletic Official III position will be to officiate Youth, Teen, Adult Sport Leagues, and Sport Specific Clinics at various City of Austin Recreation Centers and sports fields within city limits.

• All officiating/referee experience must be listed in the employment record of your application including league name.

• Volunteer officiating/referee experience may be included and should be listed in the employment record on your application to be considered.

Days and hours vary depending on league play/seasonal needs but average between 15 – 30 hours per week.

• Variable schedule, 15 to 30 hours per week.

• Monday - Saturday, 8:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m.; schedule will vary.

• Programming hours vary at each worksite.

• May be required to work during special events and programming needs.

• May be required to work during city emergencies such as extreme weather events.

Work Location:

• Various Recreation Centers/Sports Fields within city limits.

Salary:

• $26.52 per hour
