BairesDev is seeking a Software Engineer (Query Engine) to design and optimize core components for high‑performance data retrieval in a fully remote role.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of software engineering experience focused on database internals or query engines.
• Proficiency in Java or C++ systems programming.
• Deep understanding of columnar storage formats (Parquet/Iceberg) and vectorized execution.
• Excellent English communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement sophisticated query planners and cost-based optimizers to generate efficient execution paths.
• Develop high-performance execution engines using vectorized processing and SIMD instructions to leverage modern CPU architectures.
• Optimize columnar storage interactions to minimize I/O and maximize data throughput for analytical queries.
• Build and refine query engine internals, including join algorithms, aggregation frameworks, and sorting mechanisms.
• Collaborate with infrastructure teams to integrate specialized query engines into broader data platform architectures.
