Job summary

Canonical is hiring an Engineering Manager for Distributed Systems Testing to lead a team delivering the quality engineering platform for cloud-based Canonical solutions. You will drive testing infrastructure, automation, and cross-team collaboration to ensure reliable deployments across bare-metal, private, and public clouds.

You will mentor engineers, shape technical direction, and contribute to patches and architecture discussions as needed, while growing the team and advancing testing

Qualifications

• Proven leadership of software engineers.
• Experience programming in Python or Go.
• Expertise in distributed systems and cloud infrastructure.
• Strong knowledge of modern quality engineering practices and automation.
• Experience improving CI pipelines and test tooling.
• Proficient in Linux (Debian/Ubuntu preferred).
• Ability to review code and participate in architecture discussions.
• Experience in an agile development environment and strong communication.
• Excellent written and spoken English.
• Willingness to travel twice a year for company events or projects.

Responsibilities

• Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing software and quality engineering team.
• Set clear expectations and ensure timely delivery against goals.
• Partner with senior engineers to shape technical strategy, roadmap, and standards.
• Guide automated testing infrastructure for reliability and interoperability of distributed systems.
• Improve CI pipelines, testing tools, and reporting across environments.
• Enable teams to adopt distributed-systems testing practices and tooling.
• Contribute technically through design reviews, debugging, and hands-on work.
• Represent the team with stakeholders and collaborate on quality engineering and developer experience.
