Job summary

Darwin Recruitment is seeking a Senior Frontend Engineer with a focus on accessibility to work remotely across Europe. You will contribute to a Next.js monorepo, apply WCAG 2.x AA, and collaborate with AI-assisted workflows to fix violations at scale.

You will verify fixes with VoiceOver and axe-core, manage translation keys in i18n workflows, and ship robust accessibility improvements within a fast-moving freelance engagement lasting 2 months.

Qualifications

• 5+ years React and TypeScript in a Next.js monorepo with styling tools.
• Hands-on WCAG 2.1/2.2 AA knowledge, diagnosing root causes and fixes.
• Daily AI-assisted development with Claude Code, Cursor and Copilot.
• ARIA roles and hints correctly applied across components.
• Verify fixes with VoiceOver, TalkBack, browser tools and axe-core/Jest-axe tests.
• Accessibility strings managed as translation keys in i18n workflows.

Senior Frontend Engineer – Accessibility (DRWN)

Job title – Senior Frontend Engineer (Accessibility)

Client Location – Remote, Europe (EU timezone)

Remote work offering – 100%

Contract Length – 2 months (possible extension)

Contract type – Freelance

Project focus

You’ll use AI-assisted workflows to fix violations at scale, lift team compliance scores, and extend the automation to speed up delivery.

Key skills and Experience required

• 5+ years React and TypeScript, working day to day in a Next.js monorepo (styled-components, styled-system)


• Hands-on WCAG 2.1/2.2 AA knowledge: diagnosing root causes and applying correct fixes, not just following lint output


• Daily AI-assisted development (Claude Code, Cursor, GitHub Copilot), including writing and tuning prompts and commands to improve accuracy and cut false positives


• Applying ARIA roles, attributes and hints correctly across design system components


• Verifying fixes with VoiceOver, TalkBack, browser accessibility tools and axe-core / jest-axe / E2E accessibility tests


• Accessibility strings managed as translation keys within i18n workflows

Beneficial:

• Node.js scripting, custom ESLint rules, GitHub Actions CI, AWS S3, and managing many small PRs across team-owned areas


• 2+ years React Native, including iOS and Android accessibility APIs and props
