Job summary

WSP is seeking a Communications Technologist – Drafting Design to join our Rail and Transit team in Canada. You will produce CAD and BIM drawings, lead discipline drawings, and mentor junior CAD Technicians within a dynamic CAD/REVIT environment.

You will collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams, ensure standards compliance, and help develop block libraries and automated processes to improve project delivery and design quality across heavy and light rail projects.

Qualifications

• Diploma in Electrical Engineering Technology or related discipline.
• 5–10 years of CAD/REVIT experience in rail, transit, electrical, signals, SCADA or communications systems.
• Expert level proficiency in AutoCAD and REVIT with CAD standards knowledge.
• Proficiency with BIM environments is considered an asset.
• Strong independent work with ability to collaborate within project teams.
• Excellent communication skills and attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Produce high quality CAD and BIM drawings that meet client, regulatory, and WSP standards across rail and transit projects.
• Lead the development of discipline specific drawings, sections, schedules, and schematics from general arrangement designs.
• Provide technical guidance, mentorship, and day to day support to junior CAD Technicians.
• Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, sub consultants, clients, and agencies to deliver accurate, integrated designs.
• Review and back check drawings to ensure quality, accuracy, and adherence to project timelines.
• Contribute to the development of standard blocks, model libraries, and automated processes.
• Support project planning by helping define timelines, milestones, and delivery strategies.
