Job summary

Minka builds real-time payment infrastructure with a cloud-hosted ledger and integrations to connect banks and payment schemes. You will report to the head of engineering and run engineering for our clients in Latin America, guiding teams that build Latin American products and their bank integrations.

Each team has a tech lead who makes technical decisions. You will plan work with tech leads, set priorities with product, and ensure realistic delivery dates while keeping stakeholders informed

Qualifications

• Eight or more years in software engineering with production backend code experience.
• Two+ years managing engineers, including tech leads or senior engineers.
• Able to read code and design documents and challenge estimates.
• Experience planning across multiple teams against client dates.
• Experience building planning and delivery processes used by teams.
• Daily use of an issue tracker (Linear or Jira).
• Experience hiring engineers and handling underperformance.
• Fluent Spanish and professional English.

Responsibilities

• Plan the work with tech leads and keep delivery dates realistic.
• Set priorities with product so engineering aligns with business needs.
• Keep the issue tracker up to date and transparent.
• Raise early warning for missing deadlines and blockers.
• Hold 1:1s and monitor engineer performance and satisfaction.
• Hire engineers and grow the team as needed.
• Define and enforce technical standards across teams.
• Introduce processes only when they save time and improve outcomes.

Minka builds real-time payment infrastructure: a cloud-hosted ledger and the integrations that connect banks, wallets and payment schemes to it. The systems are built in TypeScript on Node.js, with PostgreSQL, running on Kubernetes. Our clients are banks and payment networks.

You would report to the head of engineering and run engineering for our clients in Latin America. You manage the teams that build our Latin American products and their integrations with banks. Each team has a tech lead who makes the technical decisions. You make sure the teams have clear priorities, a realistic plan and the people they need.

You will:

• Plan the work with the tech leads and keep delivery dates realistic
• Set priorities with product, so engineering works on what the business needs
• Keep the issue tracker up to date
• Raise early warning for missing deadlines
• Hold 1:1s, follow each engineer's performance and satisfaction
• Hire engineers
• Help define and make sure teams follow agreed technical standards
• Introduce a process only when it saves the teams time
  
  

Requirements

• Eight or more years in software engineering, with at least four writing production backend code
• Two or more years managing engineers, including tech leads or senior engineers
• Understands complex distributed systems well enough to read code and design documents and challenge an estimate
• Has planned the work of several teams against dates agreed with a client
• Has built planning and delivery processes that the teams kept using
• Uses an issue tracker such as Linear or Jira every day
• Has hired engineers and handled underperformance
• Writes clearly for engineers and non-engineers
• Fluent Spanish and professional English
