Job summary

Responsibilities

• Perform civil engineering design and analysis for renewable energy projects (wind, solar, BESS, and related infra).
• Develop site grading, drainage, stormwater management, erosion and sediment control, and access road designs.
• Support the design of foundations, platforms, hardstands, collector systems, and site infrastructure.
• Prepare engineering calculations, technical reports, design drawings, specifications, and construction documentation.
• Coordinate site investigations and review topographical, geotechnical, hydrological, and environmental data.
• Support permitting and regulatory compliance activities for renewables.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including electrical, structural, geotechnical, environmental, and project management specialists.
• Review contractor submittals, construction documents, and technical deliverables.
• Participate in construction support activities, field inspections, and issue resolution.
• Ensure compliance with engineering standards, codes, regulations, and best practices.
• Support project planning, budgeting, scheduling, resource allocation, and technical proposal preparation.
• Contribute to project risk assessments and mitigation strategies.
• Maintain effective communication with clients, project teams, contractors, and stakeholders in English and French.

Civil Engineer – Renewables

Position Summary

WSP is seeking a Civil Engineer – Renewables to join our multidisciplinary team. The successful candidate will support the planning, design, analysis, and execution of renewable energy projects, including wind, solar, battery energy storage systems (BESS), and related infrastructure. This role involves contributing to projects throughout the entire lifecycle, from feasibility studies and detailed design to construction support and project delivery.

The ideal candidate will have 6 to 9 years of relevant experience in civil engineering, with exposure to renewable energy and major infrastructure projects. Due to the global nature of the projects and stakeholders, advanced English and French language proficiency is required .

Key Responsibilities

· Perform civil engineering design and analysis for renewable energy projects, including wind farms, solar photovoltaic facilities, battery energy storage systems, and associated infrastructure.

· Develop site grading, drainage, stormwater management, erosion and sediment control, and access road designs.

· Support the design of foundations, platforms, hardstands, collector systems, and site infrastructure.

· Prepare engineering calculations, technical reports, design drawings, specifications, and construction documentation.

· Coordinate site investigations and review topographical, geotechnical, hydrological, and environmental data.

Qualifications and Experience

Education

· Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or related engineering discipline.

· A master's degree in civil engineering, Infrastructure Engineering, Water Resources Engineering, Renewable Energy Engineering, or a related field is considered an asset.

· Professional Engineer (P.Eng. or equivalent) designation, or eligibility to obtain professional registration, is preferred.

Experience

· 6 to 9 years of professional experience in civil engineering.

· Experience supporting renewable energy projects, including wind, solar, battery energy storage systems (BESS), or related infrastructure developments.

· Experience in site development, grading, drainage, road design, and civil infrastructure engineering.

· Experience supporting projects through feasibility, detailed design, construction, and commissioning phases.

· Experience working within multidisciplinary engineering project teams is highly desirable.

Technical Skills

· Strong knowledge of civil engineering principles related to renewable energy infrastructure.

· Experience with site grading, drainage design, stormwater management, and earthworks engineering.

· Knowledge of applicable engineering standards, regulations, and industry best practices.

· Experience using Civil 3D, AutoCAD, MicroStation, or similar engineering design software.

· Ability to review and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documentation.

· Familiarity with hydrological and hydraulic analysis tools is considered an asset.

· Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and engineering documentation tools.

· Strong technical writing and reporting capabilities.

Language Requirements

· Advanced English proficiency (written and verbal) – Mandatory.

· Ability to communicate effectively in multicultural and international project environments.

· Ability to prepare technical reports, engineering documentation, presentations, and client communications in both English and French.
