Job summary

WSP is seeking an Intermediary Structural Engineer to contribute to renewable energy projects across wind, solar and storage systems. The role focuses on leading structural design, preparing calculations and specifications, and ensuring QA/QC compliance in a collaborative, international engineering environment.

Ideal candidates have 3–5 years in consulting structural design, familiarity with wind turbine foundations, and a Professional Engineer license in Canada.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years of experience in consulting engineering and structural design.
• Experience in designing wind turbine foundations or substation structures (asset).
• Registered engineer in a Canadian province is desirable.
• English proficiency (B2–C1) is mandatory.

Responsibilities

• Lead structural engineering aspects of renewable energy projects (wind, solar, energy storage, substations).
• Prepare calculations, reports, plans, and specifications for design and evaluation.
• Provide on-site support as needed (approx. 10%).
• Ensure design compliance with standards and QA/QC procedures.
• Utilize finite element modeling for accurate designs.

Our expertise in Transmissions & Distribution, Hydropower and Dams, and Renewables is widely recognized in the market for both development and rehabilitation projects. This position is within the Renewables market sector of the Energy group. This sector specializes in solar, wind, and battery energy storage projects. We work with public and private clients on innovative projects, allowing our team members to demonstrate their expertise and mentor passionate newcomers.

Your Impact

• Lead structural engineering aspects of renewable energy projects, including wind, solar, battery energy storage, and electrical substation projects.
• Prepare calculations, reports, plans, and specifications for the design and evaluation of:
  • Wind turbine foundations
  • Support structures and foundations for solar farms
  • Support structures and foundations for battery energy storage systems
  • Support structures and foundations for electrical substation equipment
• Provide construction support services, both office and on-site (approximately 10% of the role).
• Ensure design compliance with relevant engineering standards and codes, as well as internal QA/QC procedures.
• Use finite element modeling software to deliver accurate and efficient designs.

The Skills That Set You Apart

• Experience in designing reinforced concrete and steel structures.
• 3 to 5 years of experience in consulting engineering and structural design.
• Registered engineer in one of the Canadian provinces is desirable.
• Experience in designing wind turbine foundations or substation structures (an asset).
• English proficiency (B2-C1) is mandatory
• French proficiency (B2 - C1) is desirable.
