Valtech is seeking a Senior Data Engineer in Colombia to design and maintain scalable data pipelines using Databricks and Azure. You will work with SQL and Python to move data across zones, build batch and real-time processes, and ensure fault-tolerant operations in a distributed environment.

You’ll collaborate across teams, contribute to documentation, and apply automation, cloud services, and modern data architectures to drive impactful analytics and product decisions within a global,

Formación

• Must have strong data engineering/analytics/work with data science projects or related quantitative degrees
• Experience with Databricks and Azure for data pipelines and cloud-based architectures
• Proficiency in SQL (T-SQL) and Python; knowledge of FastAPI is a plus
• Familiarity with Kafka (consuming) and distributed data systems
• Understanding of acceptance/likelihood models and basic ML concepts is desirable
• Ability to read C# logic to extract business rules; not required to write it
• Experience with S3, RDS, Secrets Manager, CloudWatch is beneficial
• Terraform fluency and infrastructure as code practice
• Bachelor’s or Master’s in engineering, maths, stats, CS or computation-intensive studies

The role

For the Senior Data Engineer role, it’s important to have a strong background in data engineering, specifically within Databricks and Azure. To effectively manage this project and move data between zones in Databricks, the ideal candidate should be proficient in SQL and Python. They should also be comfortable with Spark, data management, cloud services, and automation tools.

Role Responsibilities

• Demonstrate deep knowledge of the data engineering domain to build and support non-interactive (batch, distributed) & real-time, highly available data pipelines


• Build fault‑tolerant, self-healing, adaptive, and highly accurate data computational pipelines


• Provide consultation and lead the implementation of complex programs


• Develop and maintain documentation relating to all assigned systems and projects


• Tune queries running over billions of rows of data running in a distributed query engine


• Perform root cause analysis to identify permanent resolutions to software or business process issues

Must Have Qualifications

To be considered for this role, you must meet the following essential qualifications:

• Agentic AI, Snowflake


• SQL Server (T-SQL, query-heavy, not ORM)


• PostgreSQL (read‑only, for the Cargotel replica)


• Python + FastAPI


• scikit‑learn (percentiles, outlier detection)


• Understands acceptance/likelihood models (carrier‑accept‑probability logic)


• Kafka (consuming, not building)


• Can read C# well enough to extract logic (not write it)


• AWS basics: S3, RDS, Secrets Manager, CloudWatch


• Terraform (read fluency)


• Proven industry experience executing data engineering, analytics, and/or data science projects or Bachelors/Masters degree in quantitative studies including Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science or computation-intensive Sciences and Humanities.
