Valtech is seeking a Senior Data Engineer to design and optimize large-scale data pipelines across cloud environments. You will apply SQL, Python, and Spark across batch and real-time workloads, while ensuring data quality and availability for critical business decisions.

You’ll collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver scalable data solutions, document architectures, and drive automation. The role offers hybrid work options in Colombia with international collaboration.

Formación

• Proven data engineering, analytics or data science project execution experience.
• Bachelor’s or higher in quantitative studies or related fields.
• Familiarity with large-scale data processing, distributed systems and cloud services.

Responsabilidades

• Build and support batch and real-time data pipelines.
• Develop fault-tolerant, self-healing data processing systems.
• Consult and lead implementation of complex programs.
• Document systems and projects thoroughly.
• Tune queries over billions of rows in distributed engines.
• Perform root cause analysis to fix software and processes.

For the Senior Data Engineer role, it’s important to have a strong background in data engineering, specifically within Databricks and Azure. To effectively manage this project and move data between zones in Databricks, the ideal candidate should be proficient in SQL and Python. They should also be comfortable with Spark, data management, cloud services, and automation tools.

Role responsibilities

• Demonstrate deep knowledge of the data engineering domain to build and support non-interactive (batch, distributed) & real-time, highly available data pipelines
• Build fault-tolerant, self-healing, adaptive, and highly accurate data computational pipelines
• Provide consultation and lead the implementation of complex programs
• Develop and maintain documentation relating to all assigned systems and projects
• Tune queries running over billions of rows of data running in a distributed query engine
• Perform root cause analysis to identify permanent resolutions to software or business process issues

Must have qualifications

To be considered for this role, you must meet the following essential qualifications:

• Agentic AI, Snowflake
• SQL Server (T-SQL, query-heavy, not ORM)
• PostgreSQL (read-only, for the Cargotel replica)
• Python + FastAPI
• Understands acceptance/likelihood models (carrier-accept-probability logic)
• Kafka (consuming, not building)
• Can read C# well enough to extract logic (not write it)
• AWS basics: S3, RDS, Secrets Manager, CloudWatch
• Terraform (read fluency)
• Proven industry experience executing data engineering, analytics, and/or data science projects or Bachelors/Masters degree in quantitative studies including Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science or computation-intensive Sciences and Humanities.

• SQL Server (T-SQL, query-heavy, not ORM)
• PostgreSQL (read-only, for the Cargotel replica)
