Job summary

BetterPros is seeking a Mechanical Estimator to support luxury residential and hotel projects across the Caribbean. This 100% remote role offers autonomy, strong collaboration with PMs, and the chance to bid with top US clients.

You will review drawings, perform takeoffs for equipment and systems, prepare comprehensive cost estimates, and manage vendor quotes, with growth opportunities in a global preconstruction team.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of mechanical estimating experience (5+ for senior level) in commercial or industrial construction.
• Strong ability to read mechanical drawings and specs (MEP).
• Hands-on experience with takeoff and estimating software such as Excel, Bluebeam, PlanSwift, Trimble/MC2 ICE, McCormick, or Accubid.
• Solid understanding of mechanical systems, materials, and labor productivity.
• Commercial awareness and a cost-conscious mindset.
• Interest in long-term professional growth.
• Experience bidding projects in the Caribbean or other import-dependent markets.
• Knowledge of US codes and standards (ASHRAE, SMACNA, NFPA, IMC/IPC).
• Degree in mechanical engineering, construction management, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• Experience with Procore or similar project management tools.

Responsibilities

• Review drawings, specs, and addenda to identify scope, risks, and exclusions.
• Perform quantity takeoffs for equipment, ductwork, piping, fittings, insulation, and controls.
• Request and compare vendor and subcontractor quotes.
• Build estimates covering material, labor, equipment, freight, and overhead including Caribbean-specific costs.
• Prepare bid proposals, clarifications, and value-engineering options.
• Keep an organized estimate and historical cost database.
• Support the PM with handoff from estimate to budget after award.

Are you a Mechanical Estimator with proven experience in high-end residential and hospitality construction projects and a passion for delivering accurate, well-organized estimates? We’re urgently looking for a detail-oriented professional to join a preconstruction team supporting luxury residential and hotel/resort developments throughout the Caribbean Islands. If you enjoy reviewing plans and specifications, preparing comprehensive cost estimates, and working closely with subcontractors and vendors throughout the bidding process, this role is for you. As the Mechanical Estimator, you’ll need to work with a high degree of autonomy.
