Job description

We are one of the largest and fastest growing private youth sports operators in the GTA. We provide fun, engaging experiences, creating lasting memories for the youth and families in our communities!

We're looking for a detail-oriented, hands-on Controller to lead our day-to-day accounting operations and help ensure the financial health and integrity of our organization as we continue to grow. As Controller, you will own the accounting function end to end — from monthly close and financial reporting to internal controls and compliance. You'll work closely with the financial team to provide accurate, timely financial information that supports sound decision-making across the organization. This is a great opportunity for an experienced accounting professional who enjoys both the technical rigor of the numbers and the process-improvement side of the role.

Responsibilities
  • Perform full-cycle bookkeeping duties, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and bank reconciliations
  • Match bank feeds and reconcile accounts in QuickBooks Online, including inter-company bookkeeping across related entities
  • Manage AR (invoicing and payment processing) and AP (vendor correspondence and scheduling timely payments) -
  • Process semi-monthly payroll using Wagepoint and Square
  • Apply knowledge of HST and Input Tax Credits to ensure accurate tax filings and remittances
  • Review and authorize staff expense reimbursements
  • Manage the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process and provide financial reporting, including P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow statements
  • Develop and maintain internal controls and accounting policies to ensure GAAP compliance, and coordinate annual audits, tax filings, and regulatory reporting requirements
  • Prepare budget-to-actual variance analyses and support annual budgeting and forecasting
  • Maintain proficiency in QuickBooks Online and Excel, bringing a detail-oriented, organized approach to all financial record-keeping
  • Partner with the CFO and department leaders through professional correspondence and team coordination, and identify opportunities to streamline accounting processes
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting standards
  • Proficiency with accounting software and advanced Excel skills; experience with ERP or cloud-based accounting platforms is a plus
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to translate financial data into clear insights for non-finance stakeholders
  • High degree of accuracy, integrity, and attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently in a remote environment while collaborating effectively with a distributed team
  • Experience in the sports, nonprofit, or membership-based organization sector is a plus, but not required

Compensation: $1,300-1,500 USD per month
