Sezzle LA is seeking a Senior Database Reliability Engineer to design, build, and scale the database platform across Sezzle’s applications. This hands‑on role combines database knowledge with software and infrastructure engineering to create reliable, secure, and developer‑friendly systems.

You will own end‑to‑end database reliability, work across teams, and implement guardrails, tooling, and best practices to ensure scalable, observable database behavior in production.

Formación

• 6+ years of professional software engineering, infrastructure engineering, database engineering, SRE, or platform engineering experience.
• Strong software engineering ability in Go, Python, or TypeScript.
• Proven ability to build production‑quality internal tools, libraries, frameworks, services, or platform components.
• Hands‑on experience with relational databases, especially MySQL and/or PostgreSQL, in high‑availability environments.
• Strong understanding of database access patterns, migrations, and query performance.
• Experience with AWS RDS/Aurora, RDS Proxy, read replicas, backups, and production troubleshooting.
• Experience with Terraform, GitLab CI/CD, Kubernetes, and similar tooling.
• Ability to influence engineering teams through design reviews, documentation, and standards.
• Experience using AI tooling to enhance productivity.

Responsabilidades

• Design, build, and maintain shared database platform components used by Sezzle applications.
• Establish reliable, scalable patterns for how services connect to relational databases across environments.
• Partner with backend teams to improve database usage in code, including connections, transactions, retries, and migrations.
• Build automation and internal tooling for safer, repeatable database operations.
• Define and enforce engineering standards for access, schema design, migrations, indexing, and performance.
• Architect and improve database infrastructure across AWS RDS/Aurora MySQL, PostgreSQL, and related tools.
• Lead database reliability initiatives to reduce risk, improve performance, and scale safely.
