NHS Lanarkshire is seeking a Biomedical Scientist for pathology duties across specialist and routine investigations, using a range of measurements on patient samples and advising clinicians on test suitability and turnaround times.

You will supervise trainees, maintain instruments, and ensure quality control, with registration by the Health Professions Council and a BSc in Biomedical Science. This NHS role offers progression and a supportive environment.

Responsabilidades

• Validate and authorise clinical laboratory results and issue reports to clinicians.
• Mentor and supervise Trainee Biomedical Scientists and Medical Laboratory Assistants.
• Daily instrument testing, maintenance, fault finding and quality control for own and others' equipment.

The Role

• Process a broad range of specialist and routine laboratory diagnostic investigations in Pathology using a range of scientific measurements and technical procedures on patient samples.
• Provides advice to clinicians and other healthcare staff as to appropriateness of tests and time-scales.
• Responsible for own work and uses specialist training to operate complex equipment and solve problems.
• Acts as a mentor to less experienced Biomedical Scientists and participates in training / supervision of Trainee Biomedical Scientists and Medical Laboratory Assistants.

In This Key Role, You Will

• Adherence to policies and procedures relevant to all areas of work in accordance with Departmental, Directorate, Hospital and regulatory requirements.
• Adherence to NHSL policies and current data protection legislation.
• Validates and authorises clinical laboratory results, issuing reports/results to service users e.g. clinicians. Recommending further tests/actions when required with referral to more senior staff /Consultant as appropriate.
• Supervision of Trainee Biomedical Scientists and Medical Laboratory Assistants working in that area
• Daily instrument testing, first line maintenance, repair, technical fault finding and performance of quality control on a daily basis for equipment for own use and for other staff to operate.

• BSc honours degree in Biomedical Science or equivalent, which is acceptable for Health Professions Council registration.
• Formal evidence of specialist knowledge of a range of discipline specific procedures.
• Evidence of continuing professional development, for example, a specialist portfolio of development, attendance at specialist courses, training on new instrumentation and learning through reflective practice.
