NHS Lanarkshire is seeking a Biomedical Scientist to process a wide range of laboratory investigations, provide clinical advice, and operate complex equipment. The role includes mentoring trainees and ensuring quality control across daily testing and maintenance.

Candidate must hold HCPC registration and a BSc in Biomedical Science or equivalent, with evidence of ongoing professional development. NHS benefits, and a diverse, inclusive workplace are offered.

• BSc honours degree in Biomedical Science or equivalent, acceptable for Health Professions Council registration.
• Formal evidence of specialist knowledge of a range of discipline specific procedures.
• Evidence of continuing professional development, e.g. specialist portfolio, courses, advanced instrumentation training.

Responsabilidades

• Adherence to policies and procedures relevant to all areas of work in accordance with Departmental, Directorate, Hospital and regulatory requirements.
• Adherence to NHSL policies and current data protection legislation.
• Validates and authorises clinical laboratory results, issuing reports to clinicians and recommending further tests when required.
• Supervision of Trainee Biomedical Scientists and Medical Laboratory Assistants.
• Daily instrument testing, first line maintenance, fault finding and quality control on equipment for own use and for others.

The Role

• Process a broad range of specialist and routine laboratory diagnostic investigations in Pathology using a range of scientific measurements and technical procedures on patient samples.
• Provides advice to clinicians and other healthcare staff as to appropriateness of tests and time-scales.
• Responsible for own work and uses specialist training to operate complex equipment and solve problems.
• Acts as a mentor to less experienced Biomedical Scientists and participates in training /supervision of Trainee Biomedical Scientists and Medical Laboratory Assistants.

In This Key Role, You Will

• Supervision of Trainee Biomedical Scientists and Medical Laboratory Assistants working in that area
• Daily instrument testing, first line maintenance, repair, technical fault finding and performance of quality control on a daily basis for equipment for own use and for other staff to operate.
