Job summary

As an Inventory/Product Accounting specialist, you will own counts, valuations, and reporting, leveraging US GAAP or IFRS knowledge as needed. Remote work from Chile is supported, with overlap hours for US teams.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of accounting for businesses that hold inventory.
• Strong understanding of accrual accounting, inventory costing, COGS, and financial statement impact.
• Excellent reconciliation skills tying inventory systems, warehouse reports and GL.
• Ability to own the close and resolve discrepancies with minimal supervision.
• Strong written and spoken English for collaboration with US founders and teams.

Responsibilities

• Maintain inventory records, roll-forwards, and reconcile subledgers to GL.
• Record COGS and track landed costs by product/SKU.
• Support cycle counts and physical inventories; investigate variances.
• Apply FIFO or weighted-average costing and manage reserves for slow-moving stock.
• Prepare journal entries, accruals, prepaids, and balance sheet reconciliations.

What You'll Own

• Inventory Accounting: Maintain inventory records and roll-forwards, and reconcile inventory subledgers and warehouse reports to the general ledger.
• COGS & Landed Costs: Record COGS accurately and track landed costs (freight, duties, and fees to bring goods in) by product or SKU.
• Counts & Adjustments: Support cycle counts and physical inventories, investigate variances, and record shrinkage and adjustments.
• Valuation & Reserves: Apply FIFO or weighted-average costing, and maintain reserves for slow-moving or obsolete stock.
• Month-End Close: Prepare journal entries, accruals, and prepaids, and do balance sheet reconciliations for a timely, accurate close.
• Reporting & Insights: Prepare inventory, COGS, and gross margin reports for US founders, operators, and finance leads.

What We're Looking For

• Inventory accounting experience: 4+ years of accounting for businesses that hold inventory, such as distribution, retail, ecommerce, or manufacturing.
• Strong accounting fundamentals: A solid grasp of accrual accounting, inventory costing, COGS, and how transactions flow into the financial statements.
• Reconciliation skills: Able to tie inventory systems, warehouse reports, and the general ledger together accurately.
• Ownership and problem-solving: Able to manage the close independently and resolve discrepancies without close supervision.
• Strong English communication: Comfortable working directly with US founders, operators, and finance teams.

Good to Have

• Experience with QuickBooks Online, Xero, NetSuite, SAP, or similar accounting systems.
• Familiarity with inventory tools like Cin7, Fishbowl, Finale Inventory, or 3PL systems.
• Exposure to US GAAP or IFRS inventory standards.
• Experience supporting US consumer brands, distributors, or manufacturers.
