Job summary

Bechtel seeks an experienced Civil Engineer for field engineering and project planning at the Doña Inés de Collahuasi growth project site near Iquique, Chile. You will manage material verification, packaging, and field coordination to support safe, compliant construction activities.

The role requires a progressive background in civil engineering with at least 10 years of relevant experience and strong collaboration with clients and subcontractors, ensuring quality and timely delivery.

Responsibilities

• Prepare construction plans and programs, and issue change documents.
• Develop installation packages and coordinate field activities.
• Inspect materials on receipt and track field purchases.
• Monitor installation to ensure drawings conformity and quantity tracking.
• Ensure zero accidents and compliance with safety requirements.
• Provide engineering to construction assistance.
• Review design and engineering documents for completeness and readiness for construction.
• Coordinate with design on constructability issues and with Client on outsourcing priorities.

Project Overview:

Ujina Growth Project:

The mining area is located 185 km southeast of Iquique, at 4,400 meters above sea level, in Tarapacá Region. The main objective of Doña Inés de Collahuasi’s project is to increase the concentrator’s throughput capacity from an average of 170 ktpd to 210 ktpd. Currently, the awarded service corresponds to the execution of Package PG1 - the first of three packages contemplated for this project - which involves the detailed engineering and procurement (EP) of six flotation cells, and on-site support during the construction phase. Service for package PG1, which began on August 1, 2023, is a continuation of the study phase (FEL3).

Job Summary:

In this role, you will provide project field engineering specialization and expertise with work planning and packaging, material management, quantity verification and validation, safety and quality control, technical inspection and testing knowledge, and subcontract coordination. Your recommendations will ensure field engineering activities operate safely, are complete, and conform to quality standards and project requirements.

Major Responsibilities:

• Preparing construction plans, sketches and programs. Preparing field change documents and information requests.
• Developing installation packages for the assigned scopes. Supporting and coordinating field activities.
• Inspecting materials upon receipt and track field purchases.
• Monitoring the installation of materials through inspection, documentation and quantity tracking systems.
• Ensuring the philosophy of zero accidents and compliance with safety requirements.
• Providing engineering to construction assistance.
• Reviewing the design and engineering documents of the project to ensure its completeness and readiness for construction.
• Monitoring the installation of materials and equipment to ensure compliance with drawings and specifications.
• Participating in continuous learning and interact with construction engineers and other project members.
• Facilitating engineering solutions with Client and their subcontractors.
• Coordinating with design on constructability issues. Coordinating with the Client on priorities and strategies for outsourced work.

Education and Experience Requirements:

Requires degree in Civil Engineering or degree to completion, and a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience.

Required Knowledge and Skills:

• Experienced and widely experienced professional with a complete understanding of the area of specialization, solving a wide range of problems creatively.
• Knowledge of company procedures, tools and software.
• Intermediate level of English (desirable).
