Bechtel seeks a Civil/Structural Field Engineer to provide CSA field engineering support to concrete Batch Plant operations at Escondida, Chile, on a remote/high-altitude site, ensuring concrete production meets project specifications and standards.

You will handle work planning, material management, QA/QC, ITP reviews, and subcontract coordination, with an emphasis on safety and traceability of batching and testing.

Formación

• Bachelor's degree in Civil/Construction Engineering or related field, international equivalent, with 8–10 years CSA field engineering on EPC/EPCM projects.
• Experience with concrete batch plant operations and quality control on large mining/infrastructure projects; remote/high-altitude site experience desirable.
• Fluent Spanish and working-level technical English; valid driver's license.

Responsabilidades

Job Summary:

In this role, you will provide project field engineering specialization and expertise with work planning and packaging, material management, quantity verification and validation, safety and quality control, technical inspection and testing knowledge, and subcontract coordination. Your recommendations will ensure field engineering activities operate safely, are complete, and conform to quality standards and project requirements.

The position provides Civil/Structural/Architectural (CSA) field engineering support to the concrete Batch Plant operations for the ENTS project (truck shop, mining infrastructure) at Minera Escondida, Región de Antofagasta, Chile, at a remote / high-altitude site, ensuring concrete production, quality and traceability meet project specifications and standards.

Major Responsibilities:

Work Planning & Packaging

• Preparing construction drawings and sketches. Leading preparation of construction drawings and schedules and the design of temporary construction facilities and ensures preparation of "as built" drawings and other job plans.

Material Management

• Initiating requisitions for field purchases. Preparing quantity takeoffs of field purchased material and equipment.

Quantities

• Verifying commodities on quantity tracking systems or other computer database systems as required.

Safety / Quality Control

• Ensuring zero accident philosophy and requirements are implemented and adhered to by craft and others when in the operational area, and tools and equipment are in safe condition and operated safely.

Technical

• Proactively considers continuous learning or shows interest to pursue appropriate learning activities.
• Developing firm understanding of system and area scoping and drawings required for package development.
• Reviewing and approving inspection test plans. Coordinating reviews of subcontractor submittals.

Batch Plant / Concrete Discipline Focus

• Providing CSA field engineering support to concrete Batch Plant operations: aggregates, cement, water and admixtures control, approved concrete mix designs, batching, production and dispatch.
• Verifying concrete mix designs against project specifications; controls raw-material certificates, moisture content and batching tolerances.
• Coordinating and reviewing concrete testing and Inspection & Test Plans (ITP): slump, temperature, air content, sampling and compressive-strength cylinders, curing and acceptance criteria.
• Ensuring compliance with applicable codes/standards (ACI, ASTM) and Chilean standards (NCh 170, NCh 1934, NCh 1017, NCh 1037) and project ETs.
• Overseeing batch plant calibration, maintenance records and traceability of concrete production and pours.
• Initiating and controls Field Change Documents (FCD), RFIs and Non-Conformance Reports (NCR) for concrete/batch-plant scope per Bechtel SWPPs. Coordinating with QA/QC, laboratory and subcontractors on concrete delivery, placement support and documentation.

Education and Experience Requirements:

• Required bachelor's degree in Civil/Construction Engineering or related field (or international equivalent) and 8-10 years of relevant CSA field engineering experience on EPC/EPCM projects, with concrete/batch-plant experience or 12-14 years of relevant work experience.
• Experience with concrete batch plant operations and concrete quality control on large EPC/EPCM mining, industrial or infrastructure projects; remote / high-altitude site experience (Región de Antofagasta / Minera Escondida) desirable.

Required Knowledge and Skills:

• Working knowledge of concrete technology, mix designs and testing (ACI/ASTM and Chilean NCh standards) and QA/QC per the Bechtel Construction Quality Management System (SWPP 7101). Working knowledge of Bechtel corporate procedures/SWPPs (document control 3102, NCR 7104, FCD 3105, RFI 1305) and digital tools (Aconex, quantity tracking, TeamWorks).
• ES&H: Zero Incident Philosophy and Chilean regulations DS 132 (Reglamento de Seguridad Minera) and Ley N°16.744.
• Fluent Spanish and working-level technical English; valid driver's license; availability for the applicable site roster at ENTS.
• Knowledge in Concrete technology and batch plant operations: aggregates, cement, admixtures, water/cement ratio and mix designs. Knowledge in Concrete testing and acceptance: slump, temperature, air content, sampling, compressive-strength cylinders and curing.
• Codes & standards: ACI, ASTM and Chilean NCh (170, 1934, 1017, 1037); reading of specifications and project ETs. Inspection & Test Plans (ITP), QA/QC and traceability of concrete production and pours.
• Quantity take-off, quantity tracking and progress/performance reporting.
• Batch plant calibration, maintenance and material-certificate control. ES&H leadership and hazard/risk analysis (JHA / Q4).
• Demonstrated command of concrete quality control, mix designs, testing and ITP. Hands-on batch plant operation, calibration and traceability experience.
• Prior mining / heavy-industrial construction experience, ideally in Chile and at remote / high-altitude sites.
• Strong subcontract/laboratory coordination and bilingual (Spanish/English) technical communication.
