Job summary

Hitachi Energy Ltd. in Baden, Switzerland, is seeking an experienced electrical engineer to design and implement SCADA systems for high- and medium-voltage substations.

You will develop system and network architectures, integrate RTU, gateway, protection, and automation, and perform FATs and commissioning primarily in Switzerland. Applicants should have a 5+ year background in power automation with IEC 61850 experience, strong English skills, and the ability to work across project teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Engineering, Automation Engineering, or comparable technical qualification.
• Min. 5+ years of experience in power automation, substation automation, SCADA, or RTU systems.
• Strong knowledge of industrial communication protocols, network architectures, and cybersecurity within critical infrastructure environments.
• Experience with IEC 61850-based systems and integration of protection, control, and automation systems.
• Knowledge of MicroSCADA, RTU500, or IET600 is considered an advantage.
• Experience in technical project coordination, customer consulting, FAT, commissioning, and/or customer training.
• Independent, structured, and solution-oriented working style with strong communication, coordination, and troubleshooting skills.
• Excellent English language skills, both written and spoken; German is an advantage.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement SCADA systems for HV/MV substations based on IEC 61850, IEC 60870-5-104/-101/-103, Modbus, DNP, OPC.
• Develop system and network architectures and integrate RTU, gateway, protection, and automation into complex plant environments.
• Configure Ethernet-based networks and implement project-specific functionalities and software applications.
• Execute system, integration, and FATs to ensure high-quality delivery.
• Support commissioning and service interventions at customer sites, primarily in Switzerland.
• Take technical ownership within projects and advise customers on optimal automation solutions.
• Collaborate with project management, sales, suppliers, and internal engineering teams for successful execution.
• Prepare technical specs, system concepts, test docs, and operation/training manuals.
• Contribute to continuous improvement of engineering standards and practices in substation automation.

• Take technical ownership within projects and advise customers on optimal automation and communication solutions.
• Collaborate closely with project management, sales, suppliers, and internal engineering teams to ensure successful project execution.
• Prepare technical specifications, system and network concepts, test documentation, as well as operation and training manuals.
• Contribute to the continuous improvement of engineering standards, processes, and best practices in the field of substation automation.

Your Background
