Job summary

Hitachi Energy is seeking a Junior Project Engineer to join the high voltage gas-insulated switchgear team in Zurich. You will assist in project planning, design, and implementation, working with lead engineers and cross-functional teams across Switzerland and India to deliver successful outcomes.

You should have a foundation in electrical or mechanical engineering, with a focus on high voltage technology, and a desire to grow within the industry.

Qualifications

• Technical qualification in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.
• Initial experience in high-voltage switchgear engineering is desirable.
• Knowledge of SAP and 2D/3D design tools such as Creo or AutoCAD is an advantage.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications is required.
• Fluency in German and English; additional languages are a plus.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the execution of customer projects and collaborate with lead engineers.
• Support the design of gas-insulated switchgear systems, including diagrams and layouts.
• Prepare and maintain project documentation per standards and customer specs.
• Provide support in internal documentation and engineering guidelines.
• Assist in troubleshooting and resolve technical issues to ensure project success.
• Coordinate with cross-functional teams in Switzerland and India, including engineering, PM, sales, supply chain, and production.

The opportunity

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Junior Project Engineer to join our high voltage gas-insulated switchgear engineering team. This role involves supporting project planning, design, and implementation activities. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in electrical or mechanical engineering, a keen interest in high voltage technology, and a desire to grow within the industry.

How you will make an impact

• Assist in the execution of customer projects and work together with lead engineers during different project phases
• Support the design of gas-insulated switchgear systems, including single-line diagrams and layout drawings
• Prepare and maintain project documentation in line with the applicable standards and customer specifications
• Handle various supporting tasks within the engineering department, for example support in the creation of internal documentation and engineering guidelines
• Process special material orders from R&D according to the defined process
• Contribute to continuous learning and improvement through analyzing quality issues and supporting the implementation of improvements
• Assist in troubleshooting and resolve technical issues to ensure project success
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams in Switzerland and India, for example engineering, project management, sales, supply chain management or production
• Occasional travel to customer meetings or site visits

Your background

• Technical qualification in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering
• Initial experience in high-voltage switchgear engineering is highly desirable
• Knowledge of SAP and 2D/3D design tools such as Creo or AutoCAD is considered an advantage
