The Strategy and Analytics Team helps ETH Zurich make decisions about teaching. We take data that exists at different levels (individual courses, degree programmes, whole departments) and combine it into measures that show what teaching and learning conditions actually look like across the university. The Rectorate and the departments use these analyses to gain a systemic view of teaching and decide what to do next.
As a student assistant, you will support the QdL (Quantification of Teaching Engagement) project in its day-to-day work: preparing and analysing existing data on teaching activity, turning the results into clear charts and short presentations, and keeping the project's documentation in order. You will also support other related projects of the Strategy and Analytics Team with minor preparatory work. Overall, this role gives you a close view of how a university measures teaching engagement.
Fixed-term position for a maximum of one year from the start date. Start date: by arrangement, as soon as possible.
The QdL project aims to build a consistent picture of teaching by making its full breadth visible, described in measures that are intelligible and shared by all 16 departments. The goal is a better internal representation of what teaching actually involves, and more transparency about it within ETH.
Reaching this goal means understanding what the existing data says, where data are missing, which ways of describing teaching engagement work for every department, and how to present results so that they are legible to people who did not build the model. That is where this position comes in.
You will support the QdL (Quanification of Teaching Engagement) project in the following focus areas:
