Job summary

Axpo Group in Baden is seeking an AI Platform Engineer to shape governance and deployment of AI across our energy platforms. You will own standards for AI usage, manage routing across providers, and build a secure, SSO-protected deployment path.

Join a team collaborating with product, security and cloud to deliver production-ready capabilities, while supporting developers with clear docs and robust tooling. The role offers 80-100% workload with hybrid options in Baden.

Qualifications

• Strong backend and infrastructure experience with Python and API skills.
• Genuine interest in AI models governance and responsible use.
• Ability to write frontend code or willingness to learn.
• Excellent communication and documentation skills.
• Fluent in English; German is useful.
• Familiar with MCP, A2A, agent frameworks, Django and Azure.

Responsibilities

• Set the standard for how Axpo consumes AI and enforce it: LLM routing, MCP tool registry, identity and permissions, rate limits, budgets per team, tracing and audit.
• Build the deployment path from repository to running, SSO-protected app with secrets handling and admin UI.
• Harden the infra with isolated runtimes, code analysis, vulnerability checks, restricted egress, and dropped privileges.
• Support the people who build on the platform: fix issues, improve documentation, turn recurring feedback into product changes.
• Assess open-weight models and European inference providers and make suitable options available.
• Work closely with product, security, cloud, and business teams to deliver production-ready capabilities.

What you will do:

• Set the standard for how Axpo consumes AI, and run the components that enforce it: LLM routing across providers, an MCP tool registry, identity and permissions, rate limits, budgets per team, tracing and audit. A2A will follow.
• Build the deployment path from repository to running, SSO-protected application with secrets handling, safe defaults, and an administration interface for non-technical users.
• Harden the infrastructure so the code does not have to be trusted: isolated runtimes, code analysis, vulnerability checks, restricted egress and dropped privileges.
• Support the people who build on the platform: fix issues, improve documentation, turn recurring feedback into product changes.
• Assess open-weight models and European inference providers and make suitable options available.
• Work closely with product, security, cloud, and business teams to deliver useful, production-ready capabilities.

What you bring & who you are:

• Solid backend and infrastructure engineering: several years building and operating production systems, with strong Python and API skills, plus containers, Kubernetes, CI/CD and monitoring.
• Genuine interest in AI models and their governance – you've built something with models, know where they fail, and the governance side (who may use which model, with which data, how usage is traced and controlled) interests rather than annoys you.
• You write reasonable frontend code (or are keen to learn it), communicate clearly, and would rather fix the documentation than answer the same question twice.
• Fluent in English; German is useful, not required.
• Ideally, you're familiar with MCP, A2A, agent frameworks or evaluation tooling, as well as Django and Azure – or come from comparable frameworks and clouds.
• Even if you don't meet every point: nobody has years of experience in this field yet, so how you approach unfamiliar territory matters more than the tools you've used – we look forward to your application.
