OneDoc in Switzerland is hiring a software engineering manager based in Geneva or Lausanne. You will lead a team of up to 10 engineers, stay hands-on, write code, review PRs, and solve real problems alongside your team.

You’ll mentor engineers, set clear objectives, give timely feedback, and coordinate with the Head of Delivery to keep progress on track. Fluent English is required, French is a plus, and a valid work permit is necessary.

The role:

You lead a team of max 10 engineers, and you stay one of them. Most of your week is spent writing code, reviewing PRs, and solving real problems alongside your team — the rest is making sure each person on your team is moving forward, clear on what's expected of them, and never wondering where they stand.

You're the person your team comes to when they're stuck on a technical call, and also the person who tells them honestly how they're doing. If you'd rather stay in the code all day and never have a hard conversation, this isn't your role. If you'd rather run a team from a dashboard than from the pull requests, it isn't either.

Key mission:

Stay hands-on. You write code, review PRs, and solve hard problems with your team — leading by example is how you keep technical credibility.

Make the day-to-day technical calls, and design what sits underneath them. You're senior enough to shape sound technical architecture — data models, service boundaries, the trade-offs that are expensive to undo — and to make the smaller decisions for your team without escalating everything. You also know when to say no to your own instinct to just do it yourself when someone else should own it.

Stay ahead of the work. In close collaboration with the Head of Delivery, track daily progress closely enough to catch stalled tickets and slipping estimates before they become problems. Don't wait for a cry for help or tomorrow's standup—step in and unblock your team the moment things start to drift.

Own the people side of your team. Regular 1:1s that aren't status updates, clear individual objectives, and honest, timely feedback — good and bad. Your team should never have to guess how they're doing or what's next for them.

Relay context, both ways. Bring your team the strategic context and roadmap clarity they need to understand why they're building what they're building, and bring leadership an honest read on how your team is really doing — including the bad news, early.

Partner with the Head of Delivery, not compete with them. They own cross-team delivery quality and release gates; you own your team's people and day-to-day technical direction. When priorities or approaches clash, you work it out together — this only works as a partnership.

Your Profile:

Solid academic foundation. You hold a Master’s degree in Computer Science or an equivalent qualification.

A strong engineer first. You have at least 3 years of experience in software engineering. Enough technical depth in your team's stack to make credible day-to-day calls and stay genuinely hands-on — you don't need to be the strongest engineer in the room, but you need the team's respect in the code.

You want this trade. Less time as the person writing every line, more time developing others. This is a deliberate choice driven by a genuine passion for mentorship, not a resigned next step.

Real experience giving unpleasant useful feedback. Not just "approachable" — you can point to a specific time you told someone something difficult and it landed well.

Direct communicator, comfortable relaying context down to your team and an honest picture up to leadership.

Fluent English; French is a plus.
