Job summary

Worldline in Zurich is seeking an experienced backend engineer to help build and operate a large-scale payments platform. You will develop robust Java and Spring Boot services, work with Oracle SQL, and participate in end-to-end delivery in a DevOps team.

You should be comfortable in a German and English speaking environment, willing to be on-call, and eager to learn and grow. The role offers a clear path to impact and career progression within a global payments leader.

Day-to-day Responsibilities

• Build and evolve a very large, business-critical platform that merchants worldwide rely on every day.
• Work in an agile DevOps team that owns features across the full lifecycle: analysis, design, implementation, functional testing, deployment, operation, and support.
• Develop robust backend solutions using Java and Spring (Boot) as your daily toolkit.
• Work with Oracle databases (SQL / PL-SQL) as a core part of our application landscape.
• Operate in a hybrid infrastructure: a heavily containerized world (think Podman & friends) running alongside bare-metal systems.
• Ship with confidence using modern CI/CD (e.g., GitLab CI) and infrastructure automation (e.g., Ansible).
• Leverage AI smartly and responsibly – we actively encourage using tools like GitHub Copilot and Claude Code to write better code faster, improve quality, and free up time for the problems that really matter. This is something we live, not just talk about.
• Take part in on-call / stand-by rotation to keep the systems you build healthy and running.

Who Are We Looking For

• Genuine passion for software development
• Some professional experience building software – you don't need to be a senior, but you should be comfortable contributing to real-world systems
• Working knowledge of Java and Spring (Boot) (or a strong willingness to grow into it)
• Experience with database development, ideally Oracle SQL / PL-SQL
• Familiarity with containers and an openness to bare-metal environments
• A smart, curious approach to AI tooling in everyday development
• Practical experience with version control (Git preferred)
• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field – or equivalent practical experience
• Very good German and English, written and spoken

• Willingness and availability for 24/7 on-call duty as a core part of the role
